    Hi All,

My OH wants to eat at the Stratosphere revolving restaurant.

Now call me cynical........but when I call up the menu on the website there are no prices!

Could somebody please tell me the likely damage a) for lunch or b) for dinner. Please exclude wine.

    Thanks

Haven't had lunch there but our dinner in November 2005 was $200 before tip for 2 starters, 2 mains (one (Chilean) sea bass - terrible, and one steak), 1 dessert, 2 beers. You could do it a lot cheaper though. I didn't rate the food there myself, but others have had better experiences. The view is stunning.

got back on Sat after spending a week split between the MGM and Mandalay Bay

Outbound flight was delayed by 5 hours which was a bit annoying however apparently the plane had been hit by lightening and they had to prep another plan from the hanger, so all in all 5 hours was a not a long time to be delayed for and they at least did not have to cancel the flight!

MGM grand room was lovely, Mandalays truly excellent staying on the 30th floor with a view of the strip

Ate at Stripsteak which I would highly recommend which although fairly expensive, the food was amazing and well worth the trip

Stack in the Mirage had a $30 prix fix menu for 3 courses which again was excellent.

Went upto mix at the top of Mandalay which has an amazing view of the strip and wonderful cocktails

Spent far to long in the MGMs poker room, whilst the gf was shopping, however had some very good results, and would recommend for anyone who is playing poker

Flight back was half empty in economy with many people getting 3 seats to themselves!

THink it was last year when we had a lunch last there. Two starters, two mains, a steak and a pasta dish, two cocktails, $120 inc 20% tip!
  • Another spending money question here. I know it's hard to estimate how much people need, but I'm just trying to get a rough idea as to what things are going to cost......

Heading out on Monday 8th June. Myself, fiance, and 20 month old son. We're flying back the following Monday, and are staying at the Monte Carlo from Mon - Fri, and then the Mandalay Bay from Fri - Mon.

We're going to a wedding on Thursday, so won't need feeding that day.

    We're going to want.......

1 night of stag/hen stuff, which means maybe a show ticket each.
    1 other show
Daytime activity involving my son. There's museums apparently, and also we'll do the general hotel attractions. Pools will be used a lot, I should think.
We'll want babysitting 3 nights for a few hours each.
We'll go for buffet style meals mostly, and we're not big eaters. 1 more fancy meal one of the evenings.

So, I'm looking for a rough idea of what I'd be spending for this. Exclude shopping money and gambling money, as we'll set up our limits on this closer to the time. I would just like an idea of what we'd need to have a good time, and eat well.

It's always very relative...shows can be $10 or $150+ - if you had an idea what show or shows you would be interested it would give you a better idea. Also would the stag/hen night include a visit to a club? If so there's probably a cover charge to consider along with the relatively high price of drinks....unless something's been organized by or for the stag/hen?

Museums - there's a list here including prices...I've only been to Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art myself which was very nice. Oh and Hoover Dam. You would need a car for some of these, or I suppose some you could get to by bus or taxi.

    http://www.lasvegastourism.com/museums.htm

Pools are free but some will tip $1 per towel.

    Sorry, no clue on babysitting.

As for buffets - personally I don't think light eaters get enough value out of most of the strip buffets unless you have a discount. The cafes at the various hotel/casinos might be better value for you. Again, buffet prices and restaurant prices can vary dramatically and discounts are easily found for some buffets - so hard to say what it would cost. Many only eat 2 meals a day in Vegas so that might help a bit.

This gives breakfast, lunch, dinner prices for various buffets as a guide.

    http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/buffets.cfm

Fancy meal is also relative - we usually go to Mon Ami Gabi which is fancy enough for us and main meals can be had for about $25...other fancier places can be dramatically more expensive.

I assume that you know that children aren't to stop on the casino floor (they can carry on through to another point in the property). Some have no stroller rules too - Bellagio and Wynn come to mind though how well they are now enforced I'm not sure.

Your talking $40+ for steak main etc.

Our total bill came to around $230 with 2 mains, 2 starters and one dessert and a bottle of wine.

We thoroughly enjoyed the food though. Worth doing for the view alone but without the view the bill would be too much for the quality of the food. You can always just go for a main rather than a full 3 courses though.

Book your table an hour before you want to eat and on arrival ask to wait for a window table. The wait list is normally around an hour for that but is worth it.

That's a good point...and if you want to time things with sunset, you can find sunset times for each day of any month (along with high and low average temps) here:

Just click on the relevant month and it will give you a list of each date and info for that date.
