Hmmm. I have now read the reviews on TA and am having second thoughts on the Encore. My main concerns are the distance from centre strip and also that it appears to be a problem getting taxis there.

I'm wondering if it is perhaps just too far north. I have no desire to visit Circus Circus or the Riviera and could see me gravitating towards centre strip as we would be using the hotel mainly to sleep rather than gamble or eat there. I was going to stay for 3 nights, but 3 nights may be too long in that location.

I also read that it is nigh on impossible to get a taxi there as there is nowhere for them to turn and they have to drive up to CC and turn there. This would be a big enough concern if we were moving to another hotel from the Encore, but we would be looking for a taxi to the airport for our return flight and imagine it would be quite stressful if there were no taxis to be had.

Oh dear, decisions decisions. We already have Paris booked for our first 7 nights.

Would appreciate any thoughts or advice.

Taxis do not have to drive up to CC and turn round Encore is on the East side of the Strip so any Taxi driving North on the Strip is on the correct side to trun right on to the Encore service road. It is a long way down the Strip but the walk to Wynn is under 5 mins if you have 7 nights at Paris then 3 at Encore is fine it is such a lovely property and the rooms are so nice that if you have a good rate its a shame to waste it. We spent out last two nights there and whsilt the loaction would not have me there my whole trip I woudl do the same again.

We are there 24 April till 7 May, fly home on 8 May so it looks like a couple of meets could be possible. I think we could be tight for a date around 6/7 May that a few of us could make as some are arriving as others are leaving.

I am just on the verge of booking the Encore via cityandshow.com, despite their high cancellation charges. They quoted $297/£199 total for 2 nights inc tax in May. On their site it is $319/night + tax. The Palazzo for the same dates was $916/£640 for the 2 nights.

Anything I should be aware of with this site? I can't see how I could beat this rate.

    Luci i think your right!

So thats avaialble people so far:

Luci, Pebblesmax and Funkyfin2000 looking at maybe 6th May as possibility!

Sounds good to me so far!

The piece of land is here..http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=36.133029,-115.165848&spn=0.001709,0.003487&t=h&z=19

The Frontier sign was there when we went in October and you can make out its shadow on the satellite photo.

Here is the demise of the Frontier...http://s267.photobucket.com/albums/ii297/brummiekid/?action=view&current=demolicionenLasvegas-1.flv

I suspect when the present financial crisis eases, this plot will be worth a few bob and seems big enough to house a small "resort" type casino etc.

There's already plans to use that land.

The map is clickable so if you click on 'The Plaza (Frontier)' it will take you to the plans for that land.

Currently on hold, and would imagine that it will be for awhile...who knows, maybe they'll sell the land in the end to someone else.

I think it's leaving Encore that's the problem...taxis leave Encore and have to go all the way north to CC to turn around to come back south...there's no shortcut.

I think a lot of the negative reviews are probably early days sort of things...but I would be the same as Luci worrying about a taxi to the airport having read comments about the lack of taxis at Encore...I don't have any first-hand experience so I can't help in this respect, but Luci, I suppose if you know there might be a wait for a taxi at least you could plan for it? Or perhaps speak to the concierge the night before and ask if there's a way to ensure you won't have a long wait?

Encore is nowhere near the Circus Circus/Riviera part of the strip (which are a good drive away), and it is easily walking distance (and Im not a big walker!!!) to Wynn, Venetian, Mirage, TI, FSM, Palazzo.

Im sure the taxi thing will be sorted now they are aware its a problem.....otherwise a one day car rental for $20 will sort you out. Or get a bellhop to take your cases (for a few bucks) thru to the Wynn (its all indoors/carpeted/thru the posh shops walkway) and get the taxi from there. Or Im sure you could book one of the shuttles to the airport.
