Hi - had a look at last year's flights and looks like we paid £487 on miles plus money which was higher than we'd seen before - we departed on 19th October...we'd previously flown with Virgin mainly in early November and had managed sub-£300 fares with miles+money...though at this point it seems like fares may be coming down again.
    Thanks ferf,
Gosh - I dont have miles plus money - it would be a standard fare for us - so thats a bit worrying really. I was under the impression (wrongly it appears) that fares were a lot cheaper earlier or later in the year. Hmmm - thanks for your help though.

I have seen some fares in March around 299 each (which would be do-able) especially if we got The Orleans for around $30 per night or something..... I will watch those flight sales like a hawk - only thing is - have to book in annual leave shortly - so need to pick a week now!!! Knowing my luck all the deals will be the one before or after!!

What time of year does everyone think is generally cheapest to go?

That does look like a great deal but does anyone know if it would be cheaper to buy these in the States.

I had a look at a new archos in Vegas last year it was at the airport and even at 2/1 it worked out about the same. This is an older model which is why its cheap I bought the 80GB as a refurb Xmas 2007 for about £135 from ebay. Only problem is 4.5hour battery life is generous and the battery is part of the unit so you can not carry a second

I would have a look - fares seem to be lower this year I think.

Have you not flown Virgin before? Many would suggest you steer clear of them anyway as the planes are quite old...maybe try doing a search on expedia or kayak and see what comes up for various weeks on various carriers. I know November is usually pretty inexpensive relatively speaking (at least it has been for us), but watch early November as there's a big convention in town that will impact hotel rates.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

    Thanks for that Sew
I've been on that site and the Samsung NC10 blue is cheaper with them as well
I'm leaning towards that one to be honest and I love the blue colour....OH say I can have one and likes the fact that it has a built in webcam....Chap across the road that had the Archos...his girlfriend has the Samsung so he brought both over for me to have a looky see.......I think I'll go with a netbook over a tablet.....having had a bit of time to operate both I'm swaying towards a netbook as I think it meets our needs better.....now all I've got to do is find the best deal

Hi I think you are confusing the Archos, an Archos is not a laptop its is a media player no keyboard no pc OS on it, for small laptops I have the EEE 901 PC and it is basic and low powered but I get about 4.5 hours (I think the official is 7 or somthing) battery out of it which I think wipes the floor with anything in its class, I bought my wife the Toshiba NB100 for Xmas this is better made, nicer screen but battery life is not so good and this was the primary reason for me getting the 901.

Sorry thats me acting my IQ again ;-)

AS you can see I have both and use them for two very different things I dont generally watch films on my laptop as I find wven the small ones are awkward if I fly coach and if i fly business I suzzle the champers and sleep ;-)) So I do find that by having both I travel with both but my archos I use most days on the train to work and I really love it and if i lost it I would buy another that day

Whilst on the netbook subject, just seen this on HUKD, not sure how good a deal it is:

    http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/348192/mini-notebook-medion-akoya-e1210-ms/

Got a big screen, 6-cell battery & 3 yr warranty.

    Hope this helps someone.
