many thanks for this will certainly look into it.
Forgot about some work expenses to claim back and im the 1st aider here and should be getting £8/m extra but im not so need to ring HR.
OH has just rung & his boss at work has just been made redundant i think its really hit home to him that we need to stop wasting our money on takeaways and the like ie nintendo ds that we bought in oct and never use!!

Congratulations on making the positive decision to save - it takes effort, and doesn't just happen by itself.

My two top tips would be
    1. transfer the money to your savings account on pay day - don't leave it until later in the month to see if you have any left - you will always spend whatever money is left in your everyday account.
    2. Take time to write all your 'sundry' spending down - even if only for a couple of weeks - you will see very quickly where savings can be made, and how they can mount up. Example of this a daily newspaper and packed lunch could be £20.00 per week, of £80.00 per month, nearly a £1000 a year - all for £4.00 per day.

Happy Saving - once you start and get the bug - there is no stopping!:T
  • I'd suggest creating a spreadsheet for a budget and updating it every few days. PM me if you want mine.

Many thanks yes thats a good idea come the 16th i'll transfer the savings and we'll just live off the rest jan is always a pretty frugal month anyway and we've still got full cubboards from xmas and nice pressies to play with i reckon it'll hit us in feb.
A few have mentioned writing everything down and spreadsheets and the like-maybe later down the line maybe as im really rubbish at things like that i'll do them for a few days and then forget. But as you said i may get the bug!

£200 for food etc is probabally quite high judging from those on the OH board! Weezl74 and her OH have been living on 50p/p/day!

I rang Sky um and managed to reduce it to £28.50 not great cant move as im in credit to them- when i went over to the dark side they told me theyd pay for BT installation (however what they faild to mention that it would be money taken off my account not a refund humph!)
