  • back from WW. Not lost any weight so just ate some cake! Didn't put any on so just about coming in on the 1lb a week for xmas but it is so slow. I am being good but just do not have times to accurately weigh and record every morsel. I work ful time and run the household and am trying to keep food shoping to a minimum. Lifes too short to weigh an apple!

    slinks off mumbling
  • Wow what a great challenge, I'm definitely up for joining next year. :T

I've managed to go all year without buying any new clothes; I wanted to reduce and simplify my wardrobe, as well as stop spending! I'm now down to 29 main items, however next year I'll need to replace some stuff.

I think that might become our mantra :rotfl:

I quite agree about weighing everything, so tedious . Over on the single & in debt thread aka 'The problem of surplus & excess women' sarahb has been telling us all about various diets from the 'olden days'. Apparently the diet that permits you to eat anything as long as you chew each mouthful 32 times is the most effective :T

Hello everyone & apologies for yet another lengthy absence, mainly due to the very money saving joy of working out of the home & also the perils & temptations of ebay .#

Move to Portugal & Locutus2003 welcome :hello:

I will adjust everyone's totals & officially enrol new members to the front page in a minute :D.

Happy New Clothes :j to Museumworker, Suze72, Mum2one & Lula too. I'm scarily close to my last few pennies now, succumbed to a pair of trousers on ebay at the weekend for a cheeky £2.75. I have however, discovered that ebay can be accessed via Top Cashback so was very chuffed to see that I got 53p cashback :D I am taking this off the £2.75 so my purchase now comes in at £2.22 :T.

My weight loss .... lets talk about that another day when I have something positive to report. As I finish work at 2.30 I havent been taking any lunch in with me & yesterday managed to resist all the food proffered; doritos, chips, toast & choccie biccies. I have been having a bowl of not very special flakes in the morning & do think that pyschologically it's helping. I have taken a banana in a couple of times as well & plan to just not buy anything yummy except for treats at the weekend.

Little Bit - I think that pregnancy has exonerated you from this challenge, but we will be delighted to have you join us again next year :D

Miss-spent - I think your suggestion of £100 for work & £100 for home clothes is perfect. I will include work shoes in my £100 work allowance but NOT in my personal allowance, no way, not ever :D. Have spotted a gorgeous black bag in M & S for £70, if anyone can come up with a good plan / justification for that kind of spend then I will be eternally grateful :A

    bye for now

  • Sorry I don't think any bag is worth £70 unless it has precious metals or stones on it. Once you have seen the style you like copy it in a cheap shop. I got a great one last year in new look for £12 which was just a copy of more expensive ones. I would rather have 7 £10 bags than just 1 £70. But thats just me, I don't spend much on shoes either (which is why they usually hurt!)

I used to buy bags between £50-100 a number of years ago.

Then my lifestyle changed and I stopped using them, they are now mostly sold through ebay and any other bag I buy will be along the lines of Miss-spent. Funnily enough I don't miss them at all but I do find myself looking longingly at the odd expensive one in M+S! Won't buy them now!

You are a shining example of abstinence mum2one, well done :A

We will have to agree to differ on the issue of bags :o. I always buy leather or suede as I consider them to be a long term style investment rather than cheap fashion accessory. I feel the same about shoes & boots. I will only buy leather or suede as again, I expect them to last a long time. I rarely make an impulse purchase for a bag ; I have been searching for the 'right' black one for about 2 years now & havent yet found one I like at the price I want to pay. I'm a bit weird in that it has to really be perfect in every way. Will go back & look at the M & S one & probably find that I dont love it as much as I first thought

I have however been very good & inspite of loving boots in River Island for £90 ... I have just bought a pair from ebay for £14.95. Thereby saving myself a whopping £75 :D

Ladies, its a 2 in one.

How much is the most you have paid for a handbag or would you pay?

    The moral dilema -

I'm 40 in 2011, and as I've wanted a Radley bag, my mum said she'd buy me one for bday present, and pay for dd + me to swim with dolphins (dd + me going to Dom Rep - 3 weeks after bday - (thats the great plan).

Slightly freaky - I sat my Open Uni exam 2day, (1st exam in 21 years), were off on holiday to Tavistock, - in my email - sale email from Radley - the handbag they were advertising was called Tavistock.

Because of everything I have been through over the last few years, shes offered to buy me the handbag for Christmas.

The Tavistock thats on email small thats £85, instead of £115, the large size (is the one I want reduced from £150 to £99.

    DO I SAY YES! ????????????
