When they contact referees, do they write a letter, email or phone?

    Just wondering.

    Thanks

Mine were contacted by email (the ones that I put on my original application).

What was the IRC number for the vacancy you were called about? Was that West Yorks as well?

    Hi,

It was the IRC I mentioned, and yep it was for West Yorks (leeds specifically I think but not sure whether it was down as leeds specifically or west yorks).
Are you on the same IRC??
  • Help! I have just been offered a temporary position (until xmas) and am not sure what I should do. Still no word from dwp. Its an admin job with Scottish Social Services. The pay is good and the experience would be invaluable. They want a recent Disclosure (not a problem - I have 2 c/o dwp lol!). Should I decline and hold on for the dwp job or accept and risk not being available to start if I get "the call"?

I would say definitely do not turn down this job offer, go for it.
If DWP do call then you can always make the decision then, but with Christmas just round the corner would you not rather have some spending money in your pocket.
It sounds like an excellent temp job.

    Hey guys,

Sorry I've been away for a while - training is exactly as Venus described so no point adding any more.

Search and stillwaiting - I can't believe you are still here and haven't heard anything. Search I know you were on the same IRC as me, stillwaiting - what is your IRC???

I know the recruitment freeze may have affected most areas but I thought the north west was not included????

Do what you can to chase this - everyday if you have to as your 18month contract starts from the closing date for applications, so if you applied in April 2009 your contract runs out October 2010 etc.

I really do hope you get the call soon - and that goes for the rest of you out there still waiting to hear. ;)

It would seem the North West is included as I am still waiting for IRC 61866.
I make regular contact with them, and get the same answer, that JCP are reviewing their staffing position and they do not expect this to be finished until late October.
  • I received this email yesterday.

Thank you for your e mail dated 8 October 2009. Louise Perry, Customer Service Manager for Employee Shared Services Resourcing has asked me to respond on her behalf. Firstly can I apologise for not being able to reply to you sooner.
I would like to explain to you that Employee Services Resourcing administers selection activity on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions and as such often has to work to timelines imposed by the Business.
I know that you have already been advised by a member of our recruitment team that Jobcentre Plus are currently reviewing their staffing position and that they should be able to give us a clear steer by late October as to how quickly we can begin to post successful applicants from the merit list.
After speaking to our recruitment team today I can confirm that you are in fact tenth on the merit list and that all your baseline security checks were cleared on the 29th of September. The business originally declared 35 vacancies on this exercise so I do not anticipate any problems in offering you a post in due course.
I realise you may still be disappointed that we cannot offer you a start date just yet. However, if you wish to discuss this matter further please do not hesitate to contact me on the number above.
  • does anyone know what is going on with London? I have been waiting since May. I have now heard all my checks are clear and that I have been passed to the business--but how long now? Any info would be wonderful!

What IRC is this for and what part of London. If it's in a certain area of London, i.e. South London, I suggest you call the District Office for the area and ask to speak to someone regarding this. For anyone that doesn't know Busniness Services = District Office.

However, if the recruitment exercise is for a London wide recruitment your file would probably be passed onto your local District office but this insn't always the case as it happened to me, my file was passed onto North and North East London (Romford) whereas I live in Central London and my Local District office is less than 5 minutes away from me.
  • I have had a medical chat over the phone then nothing! Were you in Bridgend too?

Yes, did the test/interview at the Rugby club as well. Haven't had any calls about a medical although I did fill the form at the time. I called the JC in town and they said that it would be around the end of the month/early November at the earliest. Fingers crossed that it does turn out to be so. But am looking for temp work as well.

I do think that it is one of the worst recruitment senarios I ever witnessed. I was in Recuitment and HR for ages and even on a slow campaign there was always someone you could contact.
