Help! I have just been offered a temporary position (until xmas) and am not sure what I should do. Still no word from dwp. Its an admin job with Scottish Social Services. The pay is good and the experience would be invaluable. They want a recent Disclosure (not a problem - I have 2 c/o dwp lol!). Should I decline and hold on for the dwp job or accept and risk not being available to start if I get "the call"?
    Hi Heather
I know you have been waiting forever!! I would take the job, at least its some money for xmas, and if DWP get in touch the you can reassess then, who knows how long!!!!!! gud luck with whatever you decide
    :cheesy:

Thanks a lot! Its kinda what I was thinking myself, but I don't want to do the wrong thing. As you say, goodness knows how long the wait for dwp is likely to be. And the money for xmas for my kids is VERY tempting ;)

Go for it Heather! if you were working DWP would have to honour your notice period, so whats to lose, surely a temp position it would only require a weeks notice?;)

    Hi,

I got a call from the DWP today telling me my checks were now complete and they had added me to a merit list - however, I'm like 83rd on that list!!

I was wondering if this means I should give up hope of ever getting posted or whether there is still a chance?? Btw I applied for an AO role for which the code is IRC60245 (leeds/west yorkshire!).. The interview and tests were all done on the same day a couple months ago at The Met in leeds..

Thanks in advance for any advice!!

What was the IRC number for the vacancy you were called about? Was that West Yorks as well?

When they contact referees, do they write a letter, email or phone?

    Just wondering.

    Thanks
I can do all things through him who gives me strength....:A
  • Hello all, i have been snooping on this topic for a while but never posted.

Did anyone else apply for the E/O Job : IRC62876 (North West (Lancs))

I thought i had waffled to much in the interview however i recieved a success later (although a waiting list one) yesterday

I have to be honest i wasnt aware of the "freeze" so i am now a bit worried.

    A couple of questions?
    1. Has anyone else been sucsessful for this role? If So were you waiting list or offerred a job?
    2. How much Notice do they give you of a start date, as i have to give 4 weeks notice to the job i am currently in. I dont want to hand in my notice and then have a gap in employment (income)
    3. Will they contact my current references (one being my employer) before i get a job offer. I havent told my current bosses and would prefer to tell them myself rather than create a issue. (I am on a temp contract but with no fixed term as it is grant funded)

    Thanks
    Bufty
Hi Buftymctufty. I went to Lancaster for the IRC 62876 interview too. Mine was in the afternoon. I received my success letter last week - sounds exactly the same as yours. I nearly didn't bother with the interview after reading the comments on the forum but decided to go ahead for the experience. As luck would have it got 2 jobs in 2 days so starting the other one on 2/11, but will keep the DWP on the backburner in case they get in touch with a job offer. My other job is temporary for a year but sounds right up my street. I also applied for the Southport/Sefton DWP jobs and received a phonecall inviting me for interview at Aintree Racecourse on Fiday but explained to them that I was already on a waiting list. I wanted to give my other job a good go and so dont mind having to wait for a while and see what happens. What time did you have your interview/tests - I think mine was 1.45pm. Good luck
  • Hey guys,

Sorry I've been away for a while - training is exactly as Venus described so no point adding any more.

Search and stillwaiting - I can't believe you are still here and haven't heard anything. Search I know you were on the same IRC as me, stillwaiting - what is your IRC???

I know the recruitment freeze may have affected most areas but I thought the north west was not included????

Do what you can to chase this - everyday if you have to as your 18month contract starts from the closing date for applications, so if you applied in April 2009 your contract runs out October 2010 etc.

I really do hope you get the call soon - and that goes for the rest of you out there still waiting to hear. ;)
