    Hi Everyone,

I am new at posting but have been looking at this tread for sometime.

I had both my interviews in July’09 and my ltrs approx 10th Aug’09. The AO ltr was acceptance and the EO was confirming I was on the waiting list.

My CRB was completed @ the end of Aug and rang the DWP HR in Newcastle at the beginning of Sept. Was told that the CRB would stand for both jobs and that my AO details had now been passed onto the Jobcentre and should hear from them shortly.

As Sept went on I got abit worried, but was told by my Jobcentre Advisor and where I sign on, not to worry as DWP can be slow.

I was very shocked and upset to find out about the Freeze/ Hold, I have been unemployed for nearly a year now.

I phoned Newcastle, who confirmed the Freeze and I would have to wait until the end of Oct.

I have phoned Newcastle on several occasions to try and find out where I stand, the only bit of info I got was that I was on the Merit List but quite far down the list. I not know if this is for my city Sheffield or South Yorkshire.

I have been told that the DWP has had Recruitment Freezes before, does any know what happens afterwards ? What happens to the people already waiting, do they get pushed to the back when the recruitment starts again with new people ?

I can not find anyone who can help me or advise me any further.

Congratulation to all those who have been given starting dates or have already started work. Very jealous.

Any help would be much appreciated.
  • I need help!
I will be doing the online test for HEO. Has anyone done it before? What should I expect?

Any response will be greatly appreciated!

    Hi all!
Just wanted to let you know my situation...there seems to be some progression in the last week or so, doesn't there? Really glad I found this forum and the amazing advice people have given.

My story in a nutshell is that I applied for both AO and EO posts within West of England district. I was placed on a 6mth waiting list for the AO job (letter in July but job further afield) and was 'successful' for the EO job (letter in Sept and job local).

Well, I got 'The Call' yesterday....for the AO job! I didn't expect to hear anything to be honest as I know how many of us have applied for the same positions and clearly there were people who'd performed better than me in that interview. I mentioned that I'd passed the EO interview too, and it was confirmed that I was relatively high up on the merit list (16 out of over 100) which was another pleasant surprise! I was told they were taking the first 12 on the merit list for training in November. It was unlikely that any more EO training would take place until after Xmas. And of course there's no guarantee that there'd be any more jobs anyway, although it was hinted that I had a strong chance.

My dilemma is this: I have to give an answer tomorrow whether I want to accept the AO job but I don't know if I should wait in the hope more local EO jobs become avaiable in the next couple of months. I'm not allowed to accept the AO job and remain on the merit list for the EO job as far as I understand (but the lady was a little vague about that). I guess that would be due to training places and to avoid disrupting the business...but it seems unfair.

I've been unemployed for the last 5 months (I had to relocate and resigned from my previous job) so I really feel the pinch. The AO job would mean spending a fair bit on travel and timewise the commute each way would be 30-40 mins. But it's a job! The EO one would have been perfect with very little travel...

Any advice would be gratefully received. And I'll gladly share any more info I get with y'all.

    Take care guys.

I understand how u feel, unfortunately the majority of us are all in the same boat. As far as I know, the freeze in recrutiment was done so that job centres could assess how many more people they need if any at all. When the freeze lifts, the recruitment process should pick up from where it left off recruiting people on the basis of where they are on the merit list. You shouldn't get pushed to the back.

Tbh I would go for the AO job because who knows what will happen in a few months time let alone tomorrow lol. I wouldn't take the risk. Also you can always apply for an EO job once your there.:o

Hi all, New to this but had to write. I applied for IRC58718 in April, had interview and letter saying on waiting list. After that got an email requesting CRB letter and sent that off, that was followed by a referee being asked for reference and then I got asked to complete another ATOS health form (I have epilepsy). I did all this and heard nothing but kept checking the DWP site for jobs. Eventually I saw an EO vacancy for the jobcentre across the road from here, so I emailed the guy who had been dealing with my application asking if there were any vacancies for AO's in this jobcentre. There was no reply so I went to my daughters for a couple of weeks (after telling them I would be away those weeks when I went for the interview). I got back only to find letters from ATOS giving me a general pre employment screening appointment - the week before I got home! this was accompanied by a letter off the guy who was dealing with me saying because I missed the checks they could no longer offer me a position. Obviously I wanted to scream so I rang him up and told him all the details and that they were informed of the dates I would be away and so after checking with his manager he told me to get intouch with ATOS and ask for another appointment, but if they wouldn't give me one there was nothing more he could do. I rang them and have another appointment next week, so I don't know what to expect now. I was hopeful initially at getting through the interview and all the checks I was asked for but after reading everyones posts I'm not so sure what will happen now. Has anyone been through this ATOS check and knows what happens after it?
