I'm waiting on 60227. I've been waiting since July (when I had my interview) and I called DWP up today and they're still doing the CRB checks. If I were you, I'd continue to search for other jobs as getting to the pre-recruitment check stage isn't necessarily the end of the line. I spoke to someone (who's working for Working Links now) about them and he said he was on hiatus for a year (!) and eventually they turned him down.

So yeah, while it looks like a good job, it's probably not a good thing to hype it up. :P

 Thanks for cheering me up!! Haha!

I know, i am applying for temp work but getting no where really. Very little around. I can't help but bank on this

Okay, i know i am probably annoying everyone by now by whinging all the time about waiting...patience is not my strong point! Just going to ask if anyone has heard anything from IRC 61139 yet, any disclosures recived? Anything regarding a start date?

I am SO excited about starting and feel like there is bound to be something that will stop/halt me!! Since uni i have had only a few temp jobs and inbetween i was unemployed but sometimes not on jsa. Will this count against me?

    Thank youuuu :o
Hi, I have been speaking to a lady in Newcastle who is dealing with IRC61139. I have had my successful letter and my DS form returned, and also been told all my checks are clear.

So now I wait for the elucid call - anyone know if its mobile or home phone???

Thanks for that reply Fcrepe....i'm hoping to be posted warrington/widnes/st helens area...yes they must have interviewed at least 1000 for this post as they must have done 200+ day i was there too and there was a number of days.

Yes timings on my letters are dated very similar to yours....thing is i imagine irregardless of local job centre they will be starting with 'groups' of us maybe 20+ at beginning, hence why they are clearing so many on list, which is a positive.

I did work for dpw 15 years ago as aa and enjoyed it....so looking forward to it. I'll keep you posted and look forward to your posts
Hey Cookie (and Fcrepe), just to update you again further, I spoke to Newcastle again and I have been told my checks are clear for IRC61099. Cookie I would suggest giving them a call in the morning to find out where things are up to for you. From reading others posts we could be expecting a call as soon as 2 weeks, but then again we just don't know.

I'm with Fcrepe as I would ideally like to work Wirral side considering I live in Birkenhead. Will keep you updated if I hear anymore - chin up

    Hi guys,

First post on here so hello to all, just thought I'd put fingers to keyboard to let you all know just how long this process can take, but that it IS worth it in the end!!!

I applied for IRC57184 (Birmingham and Solihull area) as an EO back in February, sat the literacy and numeracy tests in early March at the NEC and passed both with flying colours, and attended an interview at Birmingham JC+ on the 23rd March, when I also took in all the completed paperwork, Disclosure Scotland form, and ID.

At the interview I asked what was the anticipated start date for the position, and I was told probably the end of June. Oh well, worth the wait though.

Less than a week later, I received a letter in the post saying my interview had been successful and I would be offered a permanent position once my checks were complete! You can imagine how chuffed I was :)

A few days after that I had a call from Valerie at employment services, apparently Birmingham JC+ had mislaid my ID so i took it into my local JC+ to have it copied, certified and faxed off.

At the very end of April I received my CRB form in the post directly from Disclosure Scotland, I rang Valerie to see if they had received it as well - as they had not, I scanned and emailed it to a member of the team at employment services. I received a confirmation email back to say it had been received and passed onto the checking team. All going very well so far.

May rolls round, and nothing appears to be happening. A few phone calls to Valerie are made, with the advice to sit tight and wait, these things take time, I'm joint 14th on the "list" so I'm in with a very strong chance. Just waiting for the background checks to complete.

June and still nothing. By this time I've told my boss I'm leaving soon and waiting for a start date, he understands and he's happy I told him in advance cos I have a LOT of stuff to hand over and someone needs training up to take it on. Just need to sit tight and wait, all is in hand, still on the list, just waiting for the checks to complete. What checks? Oh the background checks. But you're not waiting for anything from me or my employers? No, we have everything, just waiting for the results.

Mid July - I'm getting desperate as hell. Boss is no longer dropping hints, he's dropping bricks. On my head. He's got someone lined up for my job. WTH is happening??? I'm reading this forum, even emailing him links to show it's not me holding things up - it's the checks. The damn checks. And nobody is answering the phone. Can I get to Newcastle on a 125cc motorbike with L plates? Might take a couple of days. Starting to seem worth it.

Thursday 30th July. SOMEONE ANSWERS THE PHONE!!! I explain how utterly desperate I am, and the very lovely woman at employment services says... "Well as soon as we receive your CRB certificate we can pass your file on, that's all we're waiting for."

Stunned silence from me, followed by "But I emailed that over to XXXXX at the end of April!"

"Oh... oh no, not another one, I'm really sorry about this, can you email it through to XXXX instead? It looks like he's lost it."

I was very polite. I thanked her for her help. I put the phone down. I walked outside. I had a five minute red-faced XXX-rated adults only screaming rant at a certain person in Newcastle who shall remain nameless.

I then came back upstairs, re-emailed my CRB to the new email address, had another confirmation email, waited an hour, rang up again, and YES it's been received, all is complete, and my file is in the post to my business area!!! FINALLY!!!

On Monday 3rd August I had a lovely phonecall from Solihull, arranged a start date of the 7th September at Sparkhill JC+ (hi if you work there, or are starting soon!) for a permanent position as EO. Finally, and I'm absolutely chuffed to bits!!!

A slight twist though - I received a letter in the post confirming my start date, which JC+, and giving me an 18 month fixed-term contract. Huh???

Back on the phone to Solihull, and guess what - another Newcastle error, my position is definitely permanent.

And that's where I am now - less than two weeks to go, nervous and excited, looking forward to doing something brand new rather than selling home insurance over the phone for five whole years, something that actually makes a difference to real living people, not targets.

So - all in, from application to starting has taken seven months.

    Do I win a prize???

    Dave :)

    Omg Dave what a nightmare!!!

It is worth it in the end though lol

Congrats on your success! when your EO job was advertised...was it advertised permanent or contract? I went to this testing but unfortunately failed :( so you're going to be a perm EO? very lucky i must say as they not offering perm to people these days...(recession)

I see more jobs going for EO in Bham & Solihull - I shall be applying!

Hi Samr, how are you finding the HEO role, is it what you expected?

Well i'm not sure I knew what to expect, really. I'm still in training at the moment
and i'm happy that there does seem to be a comprehensive training plan. There is a lot to learn and it's a bit daunting knowing that you will be managing people with 100s of years experience :rotfl: but so far everyone has been helpful so hopefully it won't be a problem.

    so far, so good anyway

Hi! I am a 'newbie' to posting on this forum, but have regularly read the posts regarding the DWP job process etc... and thank goodness i found this forum... its not just me playing the waiting game!

I applied for an EO position IRC 61099 and attended the Forsight Cntr at Liverpool for the literacy and numeracy tests and interview (the worst interview i've had!...EVER)
Shortly after i recieved an email asking me to choose which Job centres i would be able to travel to (Im in cheshire so opted for wilmslow, macclesfield, congleton and god knows where else!)

I then recieved 2 letters, one stating my test scores and another saying i had been successful, and they were undertaking pre employment checks (no mention of a waiting list).. i decided to call Newcastle as i had been reading on this forum about being put on waiting lists... and found out i was number 154 on the list!!!!! OMG

In the mean time i recieved a copy of the Disclosure forms.... no nasty surprises there!...

On tuesday this week (26th Aug, a week after being told i was no. 154 on the waiting list) i decided to call Newcastle again a see if i was any further up the list out of curiosity.... and was told my information had been passed to 'Business Services'... EH? when i asked exactly what that ment, they said that my information was now with a Job Centre and that all i had to do was sit tight and wait for a call with a start date...... They were unable to tell me (or would'nt tell me) which job centre, or a contact name or number i would be able to contact in the future with regards to how my application was progressing....

So thats my story so far, i did however notice today that they are advertising again for AO & EO positions for the Cheshire and Wirral area's... Spotted on the Direct Gov website, and then the vacancy list on the DWP website,,,,,,, What can this mean????????

Are there that many positions that they are having to recriut for this area all over again?.. or the standard of applicants not the calliber they wanted?? Who knows! Will they wait until all the posts are filled and then train all the new starters accross Merseyside and Cheshire together? Or is the training given inhouse at each job centre????

I really do want this job, and whilst i'm trying not to get my hopes up and am still looking around, i only have 2 months to find another job before i am made redundant....

Really i'm just wondering if anyone else can say how long it took for them to get 'the call' with a start date, from when they were informed their application was passed to 'Business Services'???

Any insight into this crazy process would be appreciated!!!! :D
  • Pop into your local JCP and have a look is the advice but in general I would say fairly smart.

Are you asking for yourself? If so, are you male or female?

i am asking for myself and i am male, dont want to turn up looking to out of place so i figured it was best to ask there seems to be a mix of peeps slightly casual and some who are not, wondered if people in diff roles dressed certain ways
  • ooh dear this is worrying my partner was offered a job as an AO in east sussex some weeks ago and his references and crb have just cleared i dont dare tell him he might wait weeks and months as today he was digging a hole taller than himself on a building site in the rain with a pick axe as they could not get the mechanical digger in.
Lets just pray no one waits too long.
