Hi,

I attended my interview for IRC61099 on 22nd July. I got my letter saying I had been successful and that they were in process of checks.

What I wondered was about location. When the job was advertised it stated Cheshire and Merseyside (which is obviously a very large area). It would be Cheshire I would be interested in but thus far I haven't had any opportunity to list possible locations. Is this the norm? I mentioned it at interview but they said they didn't deal with that and I also called Newcastle who said they would discuss it if I was offered a post.

I'm worried about receiving a call at some point in the future just saying here is your location and start date...and it being a location too far away! Does anyone have any experience with this.

Also, I wondered if anyone else was looking for part-time. Again I mentioned this but there seemed to be no opportunity for availability to be noted. Again, scared that if they do call me they won't offer part-time. They said at interview they had lots of part-time workers, but there wasn't a place to note that was my interest.

Thanks very much.

They were meant to give you a choice form of locations when you did the paperwork at interview. They did this mistake with me too, my friend did hers on day but i didn't. They did however send me an e-mail asking me to complete the form.

If I were you I would e-mail them...I have a contact...PM me if you need as don't feel its fair put her work e
up here.

There were about 20 areas to choose from. I only put those offices within 20 minutes travel as I commuted for years and don't want that again.

I wonder if anyone here can advise me.

I am starting as a full time EO on the 1st of Sept. However, I already had 2 days off (for school) planned at the end of Sept, Oct, and Dec. Then I also have one week off in the middle of Nov and my xmas holiday from the 14th of Dec to the 8th of Jan.

These off days and holidays had been approved by my current employer as I had given advance notice of them and my flights are already booked for all of them.

I now wonder how it would look starting at the DWP on the 1st of Sept and presenting this list of days off that I would require especially with one just 23 days after starting work.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated especially from people who have been with the DWP.

The odd days are probably ok - depends where you'll be working / if other people are off.
The 4 weeks over Xmas - massive problem. It's rare to be allowed 4 weeks off at any time, let alone over xmas when many people want/need time off. You also probably won't have enough holiday entitlement to cover this anyway, and may have to ask to take un-paid leave.
You'll need to negotiaite this very carefully to get it approved.

Hello all

I thought I'd just post my experiences (I have to be a bit vague - I don't know who in the DWP is reading this).

After a few weeks of training in various locations (I'm halfway through my training)I actually got into my local office for a couple of days last week to do soem job shadowing. I really enjoyed it and everyone (even the "customers") has been really really nice. The person I've been shadowing most was from the previous months intake and she's very good and says she loves it.

It's nice for me only to be a couple of miles from home and among "real life" "local" people who aren't up their own **ses like I am usually used to in IT.

The training we're doing I have to say is very good (8 weeks - however I understand that the quality and amount of this can vary over the country). Some of it is repetetive - especially some of the "people skills" stuff - however for the role in question it's essential. I'm an outgoing person and wouldn't have been able to do the job without it.

So if anyone is apprehensive about what they'll be doing and where, don't be, it's fine

My son applied for the Cwmbran position AA a few weeks back and then undertaken the SIFTS test online, successfully passed on on the 6 month waiting list, however he have worked in Cwmbran pensions up until April this year, this was internally when my sister worked for them he got in that way........where-as then he did not take a test for that one, only this one he recently applied for.

He started last July 08 and was lucky enough to have been given an extended contract until April 09 of this year.
He understands that many obviously received higher pass rates, but will keep trying anyway, with a bit of luck he will hear something soon, the interviews for Cwmbran was taken last weekend, and we would like to wish everyone luck who attended, with a bit of luck my son will be able to restart with them again very soon, and maybe of interview in due course.

Meanwhile he will keep applying for any vacancies that will arise.;)

I would like to send an email to Newcastle-so I have a copy. Plus mine is not a straight forward question, would rather they thought about it before giving me an answer!

Any idea what the address is? IE jane.smith@dwpgsi.gov?

I have 1 job offer, 1 sucess letter and 1 waiting list offer!

But the last job I applied for I got an `unsucessful` letter!

Kept applying as did not have the results of the others, do you think that i have had enough goes and have knocked me off the list?

the offer i have is not ideal by any means, so waiting to see if the others are!

I think that you should only communicate with any employer by the routes they have gven you - to send an email to an address you've guessed would be a bit odd imho.
