DWP employment waiting list

From my experience working for the DWP 2 years ago, it is best to sort out the hours you want to work the day you start.
It is difficult to change to part time hours if you have signed a contract for full time.
I know this as I tried to change my hours 6 months after starting full time and they will only agree if it suits business needs.
The pay scales for AO are:
National - £15150
Outer London - £17700
Inner London £19040
These are recent rises and this is the minimum starting pay which all newbies start on!
Thanks for the pay scales. I'm assuming those are the pay scales from September onwards.
The thing is, how difficult was it for you to change to part time hours? How long did it take and did you end up changing to part time hours in the end?
I applied for the post of AO quite some time ago, in December actually hoping for a Feb start but I was put on a waiting list. I was finally told that I can start on Monday 22nd June, but in that time I decided to, and applied to, go to Uni in September so I'm hoping to do both; Uni and part time hours for the DWP.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Do you think I'll be able to do this? And how? My mother had been telling me not to say anything about part time hours as they may not give me the job!0 -

Hi
I can only speak from experience of what happened to me.
Basically they refused to reduce my hours 6 months down the line, thats why I left. I was going through a divorce, stressed and emotional and needed time to consider my living arrangements and they were not sympathetic at all.
Bearing in mind at that time I worked in a Jobcentre call centre not open to the public and most of the calls I received were from people requiring appointments for N.I numbers and most of them could not speak English and the Job was driving me insane!
They also had a high turnover of staff and a lot of staff were part time.
On my first day I was so happy to of been offered the Job, I think I had 3 days notice from the phonecall to the start date, I readily agreed to full time hours and signed the contract.
Another lady who started the same day as myself could only work 16 hours a week and at first they said we only have full time hours but she stood her ground and was granted part time hours. Thats the reason why I suggested standing your ground on the first day you start work.
Within an hour of starting a lady came into the training room and could not wait to get my signature on my working hours contract. Once you sign the contract your stuck with it!
I can't see them saying they will not employ you when you have already been offered the Job. Also the fact it is for a Uni placement I think you will be OK.
My advice is to talk to them on your first day and negotiate the hours you can work. They accommodated everyone who wanted part time hours even if they did not like it. You must sort this out on your first day!
Some staff worked term time only and others worked 6 months a year but you must stand your ground!
Congratulations on your start date, I also start on Monday 22nd June in a customer facing role at my local JC. Got the call yesterday.
Good luck!0 -
I've received my letter today telling me I've been successful for the EO position in Birmingham, so I phoned Newcastle to get them to link it to my previous applications. Only problem is the ladies dealing with all three positions are out of the office this week!
It's good 'ere innit!!!!0 -
Afternoon all,
I received a letter on the 6th of May to say I had been succesful at interview for the Executive Officer role in Chesterfield. I received my CRB three weeks ago and this was sent stright on to Newcastle, I have received a CRB again? Each time I call my 'Recruitment officer' she won't help me, will not give me any info just says it's being dealt with. It's been 6 weeks now and I don't know who else to call or email?
Can anyone help or give me any advice?
Many thanks0 -
So would I get a copy even though I requested the original come to me? that would make sense I suppose. I finish work at 3.30 so will give them a call when i get home and keep you all posted! Thanks for your comments.

Hi,
Not sure if anyone can help, I had my final interview on May 13th and had a waiting list letter by week commencing 25/05/09, I then received a successful letter on saturday 13/06 which said they were just completing pre recruitment checks before giving me my start date (I know they sent off the CRB info the week before cos they rang me for more information on my address).
Does anyone know how long I'll wait to hear back now? The post is for Benefit Delivery Team Leader in Sunderland and my interviewer on the 13/05 told me they wanted people in place for the first week in July. The waiting and not knowing is excruciating.
