What's the most overpriced food product that you could make yourself?

Apple, Stilton & Walnut Puffs
I bought these on impulse on Xmas Eve as they were reduced to £2 - could not believe the original price: £6.99  For 12 little blobs of pastry with a tiny bit of stilton, apple and walnut on top! I reckon even if you bought puff pastry and all the other ingredients it would cost you half that to make them and you would have loads of puff pastry left for something else... They were quite nice although too much pastry (50%) and the pastry was quite greasy, smelt good though. Don't think I would pay £2 for them again though let alone a penny short of £7!

Whats the most overpriced thing you have seen in the supermarket? :)

Nowhere near as overpriced as that though. That's wickedly expensive! Where did you get those from?

All the party food from M&S is way overpriced for what you get. Even on the 3 for £10 with a bottle of wine offeer thats on this week
  • I always think pre-prepared beef wellington is over priced. I know it isn't a cheap meal anyway but wrapping a chunk of beef in mushrooms and pastry seems to make it worthy of a whacking price increase when the pastry and shrooms cost pence.

They were from Waitrose. :) Not everything in there is silly price though - didn't buy one as I use the butcher but they had decent sized half shoulders of Scottish lamb for around £3 (normal price, not on offer or anything). And generally the food and the staff are much nicer than Tesco. I only use them for stuff like ice-cream, cereals, wine, milk, yoghurts etc as I get a box scheme weekly fruit and veg box and meat from butcher, fish from fishmonger.

Yes, have to agree about the pizzas, especially the posh ones which sell for up to £5 for a bit of flour, water etc and if you weighed the topping they can get away with putting tiny amounts of stuff on.

Maybe canapes generally are just way overpriced - not something I usually buy.
