Just remembered a great example:
How long does it take to make a cheese toastie for god sake! This thing is full of E numbers too.0 -
Hi everyone,
My biggest downfall is the microwave curries(im 17(on 29th) and addicted)
I could probably make it for 2/3rds of the price and have enough to last me a few months!!! Also chicken tagalitelle(sp??):(
Yes i am ashamed, i shall be more MSE!!! :money:
Although i am good and i do make my own pizzas and toasties(i don't like anyone else making them! The highest penalty is death-mainly when they do it wrong(lesson learnt)):rotfl:
Also another simple yet obvious lessons learnt(which i did not take any notice of until now):rotfl:
..xxI am only me, no pretences, no second guesses.. It's the best I can do, I'm sorry if that's not good enough for you... I'm sorry I'm not good enough for you :A0 -
I have made - garvlax!!! (Like smoked salmon) and it cam out great.
I was in Sain's just before Xmas and looking at buying the fillet packs (2 packs at £5.50) and the girl behind the wet fist said I should consider buying a whole one.
£10.00 later (on offer) I had a skinned and filleted whole salmon in a bag (with bone, head etc in another)
I used the thin bits (skirt) to make salmon mouse, split the sides into four large fillets three of which I froze and the fourth I put in a plastic bag with salt, sugar and dill. We ate this last night on home made bagels with cream cheese and lemon and it was bloody gorgeous - lots more flavour and texture tan shop bought and at a fraction of the cost!0 -
For those who have mentioned making your own Pizza, I made one last night.
Here is the recipe for the basic dough.
The book says this is to make 2 x 12'' pizzas but I would imagine they would be very thin, we just make the one from it and finish the remainder off for lunch the following day but there are only 2 of us eating it.
280ml water
30ml (2tbs) extra virgin olive oil
450g white bread flour
1½ tsp salt
½ tsp granulated sugar
5ml (1tsp) easy blend yeast
I use a bread machine to knead the dough so I have never made any by hand.
This is how you do it for the bread machine.
Pour water and oil into bread pan.
Add flour, add sugar in one corner and salt in another and put yeast in the middle.
Set machine to dough setting and that is it.
Once machine has finished, take out dough and knock it back (just knead it a few times) on a floured surface (I use my greased pizza stone instead).
Then I just keep pressing the dough from the middle out towards the edges with the palms of my hands until it is the same size as the pizza stone but you would just flatten it out on your worktop/glass board until the disired size.
I don't bother leaving it to rise.
I put it in the oven at 220 deg without any toppings on for 5 mins then take it out, let it cool slightly then just use whatever I have leftover in the fridge to make the pizza.
I had a small jar of meditteranean sauce that I got cheap from B&M for 29p so I used half of that as the tomato base then covered with grated cheese leftovers, onions, mushrooms and left over ham. Sprinkled with some black pepper and dried Italian herbs.
Stuck in the oven for 20mins at 220 deg and there you have it.
I buy white bread flour from Lidl as it is only about 54p for 1.5kg (75p in Tesc).
Hope this helps.
I make my pizza dough before I go to work and leave it in the fridge, it's then ready for me to roll out wth a rolling pin when I get home. I make my own sauce from tinned toms and onion whizzed up with the blender. We usually have pizza on the night my son goes to scouts because its quick and easy (and Cheap, saving the pennies in expectation of hubbies rendundacy).0 -
I've always bought grated mozarella because I've found it easier to use on pizzas but would never buy grated cheddar because I always thought it was more expensive, until today. I'd read on here that it was cheaper so today when I was in Tesco I checked the prices.
!
I make sure I buy real mozarella though & not mozarella "style" cheese.0 -
Not sure if this is the right thread but I have a question about making your own pizza and does it really save money. We have tended in the past to buy pizzas when they're on offer at about £1-£2 each but I have always liked the idea of making my own. I've seen the pizza base mix at asda and a nice easy looking recipe on here for a home made base but once you buy the ingredients or kit and then the topping stuff does it really save money? I'm really hoping the answer will be a resounding yes cos I've got loads of ideas for exciting toppings!!!:D
Over to your good selves0
