What's the most overpriced food product that you could make yourself?

It depends on which side of the coin you are looking at. If you are able-bodied then it could be classed as lazy. If you are disabled, and struggle with hand co-ordination tasks, then it could be classed as convenient. I am just the messenger, please don't shoot me.We could all learn a little something from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.0

I love the "lazy garlic" in a jar, it probably is classed as lazy, hence the name but because I don't use garlic at lot, I was throwing it away nearly every week, I know it's not that expensive but every little helps and all that! Think happy & you'll be happy

I buy it when the price per 100g is the same or less as the block of cheese. It's quite often less, I don't know why!
I wouldn't pay more per 100g to have it ready grated, but if its the same price then why not?
So my vote is for convenience...
I don't like buying ready peeled and chopped veg etc though, because IMO it doesn't last as long once its chopped. But if I were a full time working mother for example i might buy ready chopped veg each day on my way home from work for example, for the convenience. ALTHOUGH, I do buy frozen veg to use towards the end of the week when we're running low on fresh, but thats freshness issues rather than convenience... It is convenient though!!0 -
Please ignore my name when you read this;)
When I was cutting down my cheese intake ( i'm a secret cheese and cracker midnight muncher!)I decided to buy the bag of tesco value grated cheese for the kids it was £1.98 for 500g of mild cheese (bought this knowing I would not eat it as I hate mild cheddar!)
The kids didn't seem to mind it, and it lasted me at least 3 weeks, i thought it was a bit rubbery, but it was great fot toastie's, bean pie etc.
I would never normally buy grated stuff,as I did think it was lazy thing to buy, but it seemed good value at the time as I was spending £3-4 on a block of tesco value extra mature stuff and it wasn't lasting the week, and that was for about 400g.

i saw thought buying grated cheese was for lazy people who had money to waste. but when i was looking at the price of cheese for kg i noticed that some grated cheese actually worked out cheaper. i was completely shocked , i had never looked at prices of kg i just always thought buying in biggers bags etc worked out cheaper, but it wasn't until someone mentioned on here about looking at the kg price first.
i know this isn't a food but for me buying washing powder in table form is so much better for me. i find i only need 1 tablet and it last much longer as with loose powder i never mesuered it just flung it in a box never lasted. so although tablets are slightly dear ( however i do always buy them on offer) i have found i save much more money by buying them.0 -
I use the Heinz Beans snap pots which are one portion size and take a minute in the microwave my DDs will use them to make themselves a snack, but wouldn't bother to open a tin and put the leftovers in the fridge! I used to end up with half a tin of beans languishing in the fridge for ages and then throwing them away!
I use ASDA smartprice when I'm making a meal with beans though!0 -
I agree with the " it's convenient if you are not able to chop/grate/mash very well and lazy for everyone else " school of thought. Most of the ready prepped veg etc is so much more expensive than the naked article that unless you either get it reduced or really have to save time for a special occasion, it's not worth getting. Plus its already lost more of its vitamin content that way ( although oddly enough not if it's frozen ? )
As for ready grated cheese, I have bought it a couple of times when on offer but I haven't managed to find one that isn't pretty horrible in taste and texture ( floury and rubbery ). Buy a big block and grate it yourself" Baggy, and a bit loose at the seams.. "~ November 8th 2008. Now totally DEBT FREE !~0 -
Has to be sliced and diced onion.Mr russetred is a support worker and one of his jobs is slicing and dicing veg for someone with arthritis which is stored in the fridge for the whole week. The person used to spend a fortune on prepared veg but now can splash out on real treats."Sometimes life sucks....but the alternative is unacceptable."0
