Just to let you all know that if it doesnt say free range on the label..then the chicken will be intensively reared.
Happy chicken...higher welfare...higher living stardards... is a total myth.
The same for battery eggs..they are in so many foods..if it doesnt say free range then its poor ole battery.
Above are a couple of pics of one of my ex battery hens just after rescue...would anyone ever want to eat an egg that has come from such a poorly treated animal???? if not but free range.
Broiler hens-intensively reared birds are in the same sorry state as the poor little love above but they cannot support their own body weight...are killed at between 20-30 weeks old and basically have no life whatsoever.
If i cant afford free range chicken we go without.
2 for a fiver birds will have looked just like the above hen before they are killed.
Just to let you all know i am not a vegetarian or animal activist but i am passionate about my darling ex batts...i have helped rehome over 4000 girls over the past year who are now happily free ranging in their new homes.
i know that financial restrictions/implications are a big factor in buying free range meat..but to be informed on what cheap chicken actually has to endure for us to feast can only be a good thing IMO.

Cannot belive no one has mention the biggest con/waste of money in any supermarket...Yes im talking about those tubs of sandwitch filler you see in the supermarkets for about £2.

You know the ones you see with a few peices of sweetcorn, a bit of tuna and mayonnaise.

You can get the ingredients cheaper and get a lot more out of it...
    Just done a search:
Tesco value Sweetcorn: 29p 325g tub
Tesco value tuna chunks in brine 55p 185g
    Tesco value mayonnaise 41p 500ml
total £1.25 for loads more than you get in those overpriced tubs.

Is this not a bit too similar to the other thread to be a new one ?
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, what is lazy to one is a God-send to another.
For example, pre cut mixed veg is a waste of time for me, yet is super for someone on their own who does not need the whole version of each veg but likes variety, or someone who struggles to chop. The same with the chicken, if you like whole chickens fine, but if you just like the breast (taste, time, whatever) like me and MrsE for example, then its not OS to buy a whole one!
To me old style is not about being a martyr to everything that might seem OS, but adapting and using OS ways that make you life easier. I wish we'd all stop criticising others shopping (yes, I have made comments too, and am sorry if I offended anyone), and just see what helps us.
Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.
Encouragement always works better than judgement.

I buy the value grated cheese as it's loads cheaper per kg and i end up grating the blocks anyway. I also buy lazy garlic as we don't use much and i always end up throwing fresh garlic it away.

No idea how to report a post but can someone with the wherewithal to do so please report or remove lka200's post with the pictures? They are totally unnecessary, unpleasant and a rather crude tool. This debate is about what people find convenient or not, it is not about animal welfare standards. People on this thread are intelligent enough to make decisions for themselves without that kind of grandstanding.

Excuse me but i have read through the whole post and there are many posts regarding the welfare of chicken meat in various stores.
My pictures are just a way of informing people about what cheap chickens look like.
It is not a crude tool at all.
i am not preaching or trying to make people feel bad but my intention is to inform people about the welfare of cheap chickens.
I cannot see why my post should be deleted.
Remember that this a public forum and people have their own views on things.
Getting some ex battery hens in your garden is a money saving OS thing to do in my opinion.
If you dont like the fact i have posted a pic of one of my own chickens on here than i make no apologies ...i am only trying to inform.
    Get off your high horse:mad:

  • I buy big block mature cheese when it's on offer and bulk grate it in the Kenwood and keep it in a box in the fridge - it is cheaper and convenient. (I'm Feeding 9 everyday).
