    Hmm, strange, works for me.

    http://www.grc.com/sn/sn-174.htm

If that doesn't work I'll let you search through google ;)

Top link is the pdf version, not sure on the easier on the eye html version though

top link works now (what did you do different?)

As for the sandboxie. I personally dont use one as I prefer to try out other forms of security to see how they hold up. But using Sandboxie with other forms of security is probably as good as windows protection can get.

Hmmm, could have sworn I updated the link on page 1. Oh well! My bad. I do like sandboxie, especially useful for installing and trying a program, then you can just clear the sandbox and bam, it's gone. No registry entries, no crap left over.

I have to say that I would be tempted to try avira, but the lack of email scanner does put me off a bit....due to careful surfing, etc., the only time I get a virus alert from avast is when it's picked up something incoming on a spam email and deleted it without me having to bother with it, not that I'd obviously open any dodgy e-mails anyway, of course ;)

but you see my point.....especially on any pc that the kids have access to, I'd rather be safe than have a major cleanup incident on my hands....
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
  • Well I use AVG, have Malwarebytes and use Sygate firewall, but most importantly I control my browsing habits and dont visit any unknown sites, open email from unknown senders and click on any "download me now" links to install a virus to get rid of scam, Computers will only do what the user asks and thats where the problems lies, lack of education of what is and isnt safe. :)

    1. Go to C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avnotify.exe
    2. Right-click avnotify.exe-> properties-> security->
    3. Under the group or username SYSTEM click edit
    4. Put a checkmark under the DENY column for "read and execute"

    Worked for me. :D

Be aware there are slight differences to get rid of the screen depending on your OS.

    Full solution HERE.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Very commendable, but sometimes some of us may have to visit an unknown site.

I'm usually a pretty "safe surfer", but over the last couple of days I've been searching everywhere for some information.

One time Firefox itself alerted me that the site was a forgery and a front for a Russian site.
Another time, No-Script told me that a malicious script was present.

When I meant unknown sites I meant stuff via email, and pron sites for reasons only the user knows, I to have to find info on never before visited sites but I do let AVG give me an indication if its safe or not.

Sygate was stopped a few years ago. Its probably more unsafe than windows firewall now

Uninstall it (make SURE its gone)
    Then install PCTOOLS FIREWALL

Also. Education helps, but it wont stop all problems on computers (for example, if THIS very site was 'hacked')

Its Ok thanks been a user for years and it still beats many firewalls hands down on shields up ;)

And PC Tools firewall fails GRC. :p
