This all seems very hit and miss. My initial opening of account went through very smoothly - wasn't asked to provide ID at branch or anything. Second £100 went in 3 March. Therefore £100 should have been given before 31 March. Nothing! Lodged complaint that they are dealing with. How much hassle should I give them??

In reply to another post as to what to do with the money - take a look at the spread betting thread - a good way to get started making more free money!

I see some people are being told they applied to late and they are adamant that they applied online before 12 noon on 19th January.
I have just asked and recieved a copy of my original online application form ( for an unrelated matter ) at the top of this form it states the day and even the time you applied.
Asking for a copy of your online application form may clear this up once and for all for you.
Wish I could stop editing EVERY post I make
  • I emailed Barclays last week and was told "The accounts are being reviewed this week and anyone who qualifies, will be get paid, starting next week."

I've checked my account and my OH's and i've got the £100 but OH is still waiting ! Will chase next week as 28 days is up and we opened accounts within 5 mins of each other. Mixed emotions eh?!

    Hi,

Just checked my on-line banking, and yes an easy £100 was sitting there.

Must say Barclay account opening process is very simple and efficient, 10/10 for them. Shame I'll be closing the acount soon!

ps Great news about Reading FC!

  • Logged onto Barclays over the weekend and confirm that the £100 has been paid to both me and my wife. :j

Like some other posters - my wife has had her fair share of problems with Barclays Customer Services

In common with many other people, despite applying for a standard Barclays current account, when the welcome letter for her account arrived she found that she had been signed up to a Barclays Additions account which attracted a charge of £5.00 per month.

We have had so many problems trying to get Barclays to transfer the account to a standard current account. Finally, after going through the Customer service dept, we recieved a letter regarding our complaint which stated that they would comply with our request and also refund the 2 x £5.00 charges for the Additions account. However, the following month they took another £5.00 for yes, you've guessed it - the Additions account

I have absolutely no problem with moving our money from Barclays to our normal bankers and closing the Barclays Accounts down.

In my opinion, this offer has completely blown up in Barclays face Not only has it exposed complete incompetence at Barclays with reference to putting the offer out with such a large loophole, it has also highlighted superior poor quality Customer Services. If the treatment my wife suffered as a new customer is anything to go by - I shudder to think just how badly they treat their loyal customers.

I will NEVER ever go anywhere near a Barclays product - unless, of course, they are so stupid enough to repeat any offer similar to the one I have just benefited from.

Well done Martin & thanks for bringing the offer to our attention
  • Second £1000 credited to my account on 27 March
£100 bonus credited on 29 March

Could this be a record? Not at all what I expected, given Barclays' performance to date. But, actually, the whole process was entirely hassle-free for me.

My thanks to Martin for the tip.

I too have just received my £100, and without undue problems. I'm still going to close the account, it's insulting that they would think I would want it with that rate of interest, and various other charges.

I would like to say a big thank you to Martin, as I'm now a firm disciple. Got the Auto Aid, switched my energy supplier, haggled on home insurance, reduced my mobile bills, home phone bills almost non existant now, and in general, I'm just so much more clued up.

Cheers mate, let me know if you'd like to have a cab ride out to Paris in my Eurostar in a few months as a thank you.

Just got my £100 today !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Nice one.

Now going to write a cheque for £100.02 then close the account and ask them to remove my details from any mailing lists. It will have only cost me the price of a 1st class stamp for the £100.00, lol

It has to be the easiest £100 I have ever made, apart from the £125 I made out of First Direct last year.
  • Just checked my on-line Barclays account and £100 was credited on 31 March (17 days after the 2nd £1000 deposit). I even received 9p interest! I've now transferred all the funds to my savings account.

All very straightforward. The staff were polite and helpful (why are we always surprised, delighted and extremely grateful when this happens? !) when I rang up as I couldn't activate my account - I'd mistyped my email address! Oops.

I almost felt tempted to leave my money there - just joking!

    Thanks, Martin
