Must go to the cash machine today and see if mine is there

Have people started closing their accounts now?
I'm planning on keeping mine open (won't leave any money it in) as Easyjet charges for using debit and credit cards for purchases, the only card they don't charge for is electron, keeping the account open purely for that.
2p off is still 2p off!
  • Fantastic, just received £100 credit to my account.
    Applied: 18/1/2006 at 9pm,
    Opened: 10/2/2006
    1st credit: 14/2/2006
    2nd credit: 16/3/2006
    £100 credit 31/3/2006.

One call to them on 20/3/2006 just to confirm I had made the deposits correctly and was on 'the list' which they apparently have.

Quick query RE: tax in relation to this £100 - what is the taxable status of this £100 offer and other similar incentives received for joining places - are these counted as 'gifts' ?

    Good luck.

For reference for others - here's the FAQ from their site on closing accounts...
How do I close an account with Barclays?
Print and complete our close account form and return it to the address shown on the form. You can use this form to close your account or close and transfer it. You can also contact your branch or call Telephone Banking to arrange this.

In some cases we may not close your account until you have returned any plastic cards and unused cheques. Before we close your account, you must repay any money you owe us, including the amount of any cheques, card transactions or other payment instructions you've made and that have not been taken out of your account.

When we close your account we'll calculate any interest owed. A closing statement will be sent to you within five working days of the account being closed.

When closing an account, don't forget to inform anyone who makes payments to your account and any companies with Direct Debits set up on it.
  • Checked online, £100 credited today. Applied 18th Jan after receiving Martin's tip, account opened 10th Feb. First £1k deposited 14th Feb, 2nd £1k deposited 13th March. Have been using the account to pay bills online that I would normally use my regular account for. Will probably now withdraw all but a few pence so as it leave it open as a parachute account should it ever be needed - unless anyone thinks it better just to close it?

Thanks Martin - easiest £100 I've ever made!

    3/2/06 paid in £500

    3/3/06 paid in £1000

I rang the 0500 number yesterday. First £1k was paid in on 3/2/06 and second £1k was paid in on 3/3/06.

Person on 0500 number transferred me to someone else; they in turn transferred me to a second person who said the 28 days were working days which of course, is rubbish. Working days would be divisible by 5 or, possibly 6. Furthermore, T & C's do not state "working days".

I was then transferred to a third person who disappeared to have a long conversation about the matter with a colleague. I was left on hold for TWENTY minutes!

Rang 0500 number yet again and spoke to someone called Emma who said that the process of putting the 100 pounds in people's accounts began at the beginning of the week but there is a back-log because there were some 7,000 transactions to process and only a small team to do it. She said my £100 would be credited by the end of the comng week. Watch this space!

Got mine 31/3/06 Yippee!! for the record I applied on the night before they removed the offer. Afte a bit of a wait account opened and deposited 1st 1k on 13th Feb and second on 13th March. So I am not sure about the 28 day stuff

Also I have a mortgage with the Woolwich which has a current account attached so was half expecting to be knocked back. Thanks to Martin and the site, will be spending this today

    I'll post these again.....
    Relevant T&C's

    4. The account must be opened within one month of fully completing the Barclays Bank Account application form online.
    5. Once the new account has been credited with £1,000 or more each month for the first two consecutive months after account opening, the new customer will be eligible to receive £100. Only one £100 will be payable to the new account opened and only one new account may be opened under the terms of this offer. The new customer's account will be credited with £100 within 28 days of the 2nd monthly payment of £1,000 or more being paid into the new account.

I would suggest people that you are PATIENT!

Unless 28 days has passed since your second deposit of 1K then don't expect anything yet!
but there is a back-log because there were some 7,000 transactions to process and only a small team to do it.

Sounds reasonable, so some people will get the £100 fairly quickly and others may have to wait.

    Patience is a virtue:D

I have got the hang of this but my money has not been paid in within 28 days.

True. But if people have not received £100 within 28 days, then this contravenes the t & c's. Can I ask, have you received your £100?

No I have not received my £100.

My 2nd 1K deposit was on 20th March.

If I haven't received my £100 by 20th April I will ring and enquire, but not before.

You are getting money for nothing, be patient!
