I'm going to keep mine open but with a zero balance as it's an electron card it's handy for booking EasyJet flights as they don't charge for using an electron card - charge for ALL others now.
2p off is still 2p off!

My wife and I have both opened a Barclays Bank Account on-line. We have both received letters dated 17 January 2006 stating that the accounts are now open and ready for use. Both of us have paid in £1000 to our accounts on 24 January and a further £1000 each into our accounts on 24 February. Neither of us has drawn on these deposits so that there is currently a balance of £2000 on each account. I think we have both therefore adhered strictly to the rules and regs relating to the offer.

By my reckoning the 28 day wait for the £100 to be paid into each account should be over by 23 March...........next Thursday in fact. I will post again on Friday 24 March to let you know if we have received the £100 each

Has anyone received a cheque book as one arrived for me this morning?? My understanding of an online banking account is that there is no paperwork. Oh, and no mention anywhere of the £100 offer!!

Yup, myself and OH received cheque books.

IIRC the cheque book branch name is 'direct banking' or similar, soi I assume this is the online. Also, all the online banking stuff (pass number etc) was generated from the initial application.

The complaints manager phoned me back bang on time and apparently the only criteria for online banking is that you open the account online, once that is done it is just a normal account. He has also assured me that I will receive my £100 once my second £1000 has been deposited in the account.

What a c**p account. Not only do they have this paltry interest rate, they also only allow max £1,000 movement (payments, transfers) per day online. You can do more, but you then have to ring them or go to a branch.

I am sure Barclays would say this is for my own security blah blah but I prefer an account that lets me use my money online as I see fit (and that pays more than an insulting rate of interest).
Do they allow you to pay in more than £1000 per day ? I have just transferred £1000.05 into the account (to be on the safe side).
