Thanks for all your kind words- the Rainbow Bridge is one I have heard before, & it makes my heart ache- I know I will look back on all the happy times with Maddie, but even now, I have just had a weep, drawing the curtains & looking out on her grave-I would love to think that all our dearly loved babes are waiting at Rainbow Bridge for us. Thank you to everyone-I appreciate it very very much.0

Thankyou everyone for all the advice and words of comfort. I couldnt face coming back on here this morning. Weve been looking through our photos of Bessie, werre going to have one blown up and put in a frame.
The vets have said they will ring me in 10 days to collect her ashes adn we can put her in the garden where she loved to sunbathe.
Thanks again everyone.0 -
Bloody hell.
Here I am,a fifteen stone hgv driver, bawling my eyes out while writing this, and our 7 month old x-mongrel,Stella looking at me,probably wondering what I'm doing.
I feel for the pair of you,and as I'm looking at Stella,I'm not looking forward to the day, when she'll sadly have to leave us.I'm hoping it's a long long way off.We had the same feeling when we lost our rabbit,Snowy,2 years ago.
It's amazing how much a part of a family a dog becomes, indeed that goes for any pet,and how any decent person will do anything for them, and then how they react when it's time to say goodbye.
In time your pain will ease, but I'm sure that both of your dogs would want you to remember the good times you had with them, and it's this that should help you through your grieving.

Just thought I would check on your thread again and see how things were going. It's always good to have something to remember your dog by, a favourite photo, a toy, etc. I still have our Louie's little rabbit put away for safety keeping, I also have some of her fur as well.
A bit of advice I would give though is not to rush into burying her ashes in the garden, until you are 100% sure you are happy with your decision. My advice would be to mull over it for a couple of months.
With our first dog Lassie we always said we would bury her under a cherry tree in the back garden and we did so when she died wrapped in her blanket. Although to be honest this decision was later regretted and we now wish we had'nt buried her casket. When our 2nd dog Judy died and later followed by Louie we kept their ashes and have put them either side of the mantel piece in the front room  . I would hate for someone else to go through the same regret that we did.
Good Luck. xxx0 -
For all of those in this thread who have lost a dog they love, please read this and consider giving a rescue dog/pup a home when you are ready for another dog or puppy...
A Dog's LegacyWhen humans die, they make a will
To leave their homes and all they have
to those they love.
I, too, would make a will if I could write.
To some poor wistful, lonely stray
I leave my happy home,
My dish, my cosy bed, my cushioned chair, my toy.
The well loved lap, the gentle stroking hand,
the loving voice,
The place I made in someone's heart,
The love that at the last could help me to
a peaceful painless end
Held in loving arms.
If I should die, Oh do not say,
"No more a pet I'll have,
to grieve me by it's loss"
Seek out some lonely, unloved dog
And give my place to him.
This is the legacy I leave behind -
'tis all I have to give.0 -
It must be a day for it ... I just got back from the Pet Crem today after having to have my beloved cat put to sleep this afternoon.
During a dental op at the beginning of December, they found lesions on her tongue. A biopsy showed squamous cell carcinoma, the most aggressive and fastes growing cancer ... I was blessed with these past weeks with her ... of having her around to "help" me trim the tree ... of her being well on herself up to this morning ... she deteriorated rapidly today and gave me a lot of strong signs she had had enough ... within two hours, she couldn't even drink water ... I can't believe how rapidly she lost the sparkle in her eyes and went withdrawn and started crying, obviously being in pain.
And even then, I still kept thinking, am I doing the right thing ... it's only natural we have doubts ... no matter how many signs we see ... but Holly left me this afternoon, in my arms, with her head on my hand, looking at me ... she seemed to accept what was going to happen was the best for her ... she left peacefully and without a struggle.
I am not trying to hijack the thread! I promise ... I just want to say that reading this thread today, I really really am thinking of you who have lost your pets recently ... it never gets any easier. Never.
I only had my little girl for 6 years ... but they were treasured and as I say, it is only today that she was starting to suffer, so I am thankful for that ...
Look after yourselves, remember the good times, don't rush to clear their things out of sight ... give yourself time to grieve and then time to remember ... our best friends leave pawprints on our heart ... bless them.0 -
