  • Miss Stropy and Red Arrow, sorry to hear about both your losses.

My family lost a much beloved Border Collie Louie 2 years ago old in April. Unfortunately we had to make the most heart breaking decision ever to let her go and not too prolong the suffering. Luckily we got the opportuntity to say goodbye and were with her when she died and I am thankfull for that.

You may not feel like it now, but in time you may feel like opening your home to another dog and I wish you both the joy and happiness other dog would bring.

It happened to my family, believe it or not, only 5 days later. Our other dog Floss (who was bought a few weeks after Louie's big sister had died the year before) was missing the companionship of her buddy so we decided to look around for another puppy. Only it happened much quicker than anticipated. The day we brought Nell home, she lit up the entire family and is the most beautifully natured dog and is the best of friends with Floss. It is strange as she would appear to have a lot of the same fun loving and playful personality our Louie had. It was the best family decision we have made that was so rash. :j
  • It breaks my heart to hear news like this ( I KNOW that they are 'only' animals & people etc. etc.) Dogs become part of your family .We have a 13 year old Lab that I call daughter number two. I get paranoid when we are out walking and others say shes an old 'un .This year we have taken so many photos of her in case its her last Christmas with us. Assure yourself that your Dogs were loved. At the end of the day that's all you can ask for. Love and kind thoughts to you. xXx
I may not have thanked you but I meant to, honest!
  • I feel for you and your family. It is normal to feel very sad and you will probably be like me and keep crying for a few days.
Our last dog died last January and we have only just decided the time is right to get another one, so dont rush into replacing your beloved pet.
It will get better in time and you and your family can look back with love at the times you had with your dog.

    Thinking of you

MS and RA I'm so sorry to hear your news, but you were with them for their final moments which would have been a comfort for them if not for you (at the time). Unfortunately our furry families are only lent to us and not given to us forever, however they create their own place in our heart which never goes. Big hugs to you both

For Missstropy, red arrow, their families and all us dog owners who have lost a huge part of our lives, some lovely words by that famous poet 'Anon':

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!

    xx
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D
  • MS and RA, I'm so sorry to hear your sad news - sending hugs to you both.
  • Missstroppy and Red Arrow, so sorry to hear about your loss, my sister had to get her lab x Ben put to sleep in September, he was only 8 years old and we still miss him every day, I am actually starting to cry writing this, we were with him when he died, he was kept in overnight at the vets and put on a drip but deteriorated within a couple of hours and we got a phone call at 4.45 that morning to get to the vets and he was put to sleep at 5.40. My sister has got another dog, a jack russell called Lady who grew up with him and the vet let her bring her in to say goodbye to him. Since then my sister got another jack russell as Lady was fretting and not eating, this new dog, Poppy she got from a rescue home and she has got the same personality and traits that Ben had, it is like having him back!

very sorry to hear about your sad news hope you are ok
  • Sorry to hear of your loss. :(

My boy passed away in September and although I still miss him like crazy, it does get easier day by day.

Someone posted this for me when he died and it still wells me up reading it now.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
