    morning all

hugs to the mudgekins - what a shock

Am getting ready in a bit for my last shift at the crisis shelter - i must say i'm really eeling it now. I think it's as much to do with the dodgy hours and lack of proper mealtimes as much as anything. Couldn't be bothered to walk the last 1/4 mile home last night/this morning so stayed at dd(19)s which was lovely. Just got in now for a quick bath. There is a drinky do for volunteers tonight and i have been promised a lift home by our lovely shift leader even though it is miles out of her way so i could be getting my first christmas drink at last!

dd(23) has messed things up rather - we were having our christmas on new years eve and she has suddenly remembered that she's working. We'll probably do it on saturday instead now - GRRR!

    have a good day

    Morning everybody.
Mr.& Mrs Mudgkin-sorry you've had bad news- ((((many hugs to you))))

Freezing here, frost not budged off garden.I need to input my meter readings on imeasure, but putting it off...do I really want to know what my energy has cost this last week

I dealt with the last of the turkey yesterday ,some is in the freezer in gravy,so are some some bones, rest of carcass made broth before we went to the match. When we got back DH said whats for tea-steak I said before heading upstairs to get changed as my oldest friend and her DH were calling on their way back home to Yorkshire.( I have been hoarding two lots of steak for treats, and one lot was defrosting in utility)I was only 5 mins, but in the meantime he had defrosted the other lot in the microwave and it was cooking away.I could tell it wasnt the same lot as mine also had a piece for DS and his hadnt,so now we have to have it again tonight-I know -very nice, but there isnt any left now for a birthday celebration.Grrr.He knows I never dfrost meat in the microwave,he thought I'd forgot to take it out despite actually walking past mine on the way to the freezer.Still, out again tonight so at least it'll be quick to cook :rotfl:

Was a bit disappointed with the sales on Sat.I came home empty handed-the prices still seemed dear even after the reductions in m&s,and lots of stuff wasnt in the sale,so didnt spend my voucher(I must be getting very OS now).
Right off to do some tidying, better make some bread too.x

    thanks

  • Morning everyone!

Mudgekin Sending hugs to you and your DH, what a terrible shock for you both. :grouphug:

Not much to report from here, we're all enjoying the holidays and being very lazy too.;) Although I did have a huge clearout in DD2's bedroom on Saturday so that we could put her new toys up there and now I have 3 binbags full of stuff for the charity shops. I also blitzed the house with the hoover as it was pretty grubby after xmas day.
We're eating all of the leftovers and the huge stockpile of food. Yesterday we went for a lovely meal at my parent's and I persuaded my mum not to throw the leftovers away, so today she's making bubble and squeak for her and my dad.:D

We've decided to go camping next summer in Ireland and we're going to use the Tesco vouchers to pay for the ferry so it should be a fairly frugal holiday next year (after this year's unfrugal trip to Australia:o ). We're going back to camping without electricity too, so I've ordered a wind up lantern as we already have wind up torches and a radio. I'm also going to treat myself to some cordless/gas hair straightners and I insist on having decent hair even when I'm camping.:rotfl:
Today DH brought me some tea and toast in bed so I'm being very spoilt. The girls are still loving their wii and DD2 has worked out how to cheat on it!:rotfl:
We're going into the city centre soon and treating ourself to an all day breakfast/lunch at one of our favourite cafes (Chantilly in Cavern Walks). We're going to have a look around the sales too and pop into Woolworths to say 'goodbye'.
Tonight's tea will be toasted paninis with salad and more 'stuff' from the fridge.
    Have a good day!:D
  • So far I've been to the bank to open a new account, will close the old one next month. Taken a pair of shoes in to be heeled & soled (£16.58!!!).
Made 2 x meatloaf & 2 x cottage pie, found a glove, so I now have a pair, not exactly the same, but no-one's going to stop a galloping horse to look.
Bought a book for hubby & a top for me in the charity shop sale.
Hubby's not working now till after the New Year, they went in today, but the chippies haven't finished, so we'll take the decs down tomorrow.

    Just a quick post......

Does anybody have a pattern to knit a baby blanket approx 100cm x 100cm ....

I'm not a whizz at knitting, but can cast on/off knit and purl, i've seen loads but most have fancy edging on which i wouldn't even attempt.

If you've got one, i'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks folks x

tru, if I were you I'd go for the films and chocolate....the freezer will fill up all by itself pretty soon. ;)

For anyone with a weak disposition please don't read the rest of my post

I was sitting munching chocolate, sipping coffee and surfing when I heard mad scratching coming from the porch. I opened the door and started to give off at Tilly (the cat) for pulling up the carpet when I looked at her properly. She was bleeding badly and the fur from her tail was hanging by a thread with the tail bone completely exposed. _pale_ Luckily the vet is open today so we were able to take her down straight away and they think she's been caught in some sort of animal trap. It's just lucky that it was her tail and not some other part of her body or she could have been stuck there for days dying slowly. She's going to have what remains of her tail amputated this afternoon. The poor little thing must be in agony. I can't quite get my head around it because although we live in the countryside she rarely wanders far from home.

Because of that the trip to Ikea has been abandoned so I think I'll do a fridge and freezer clear out while we wait to hear when we can pick Tilly up.

  • Good afternoon Chums,
and <<hugs to the Mudgekins>> try to stay positive if you can.

It's very cold here in North Kent although the sun is shining its -2c at the moment. I have just got back from youngest DD's, have been there since Friday. House is very cold, so the CH has gone on full blast to warm it up.
No need to shop though, as I have lots of stuff still to get through from my DD's. I am going to make a big pan of Leek and Potato soup this afternoon as I want to use up the spuds and leeks that are in the veggie basket.
Any left over veggies get 'souped' if not frozen in my house. I love home-made soup, especially this weather .I am going to experiment with my new Remoska this week as well.:j
Having lowered my GC budget for this month I am really going to be very frugal as I have so much stuff in the cupboards and freezer.
Yesterday whilst in Mr T's with DD I picked up a huge ham hock reduced to £2.00.That is in my DD's spare freezer at the moment, but it will get cooked and hopefully I will have some nice Pea and Ham soup from that as well. So much stuff was left in my local Mr T's I think folk are being a lot more selective this year than they used to be . We will all be tightening our belts I think with the credit crunch really starting to bite after Christmas.I am lucky that I was careful and didn't overspend this year, as I am thinking of my fuel bills which will become due in February.
I hope evryone has a Happy and peaceful New year. I am going to the pantomime with my grandchildren on Wednesday afternoon. We are going to see Jack and the Beanstalk in Maidstone.I haven't been for several years so I'm looking forward to that. had lots of nice presents and from one of my relations I had a food hamper with lots of different goodies in it.very useful, not only toiletries, but tins of stuff ,the sort of stuff I wouldn't normally buy, so it will be a treat to have something exotic in January.:j
Right time to go and have some lunch,I think a toasted cheese sandwich will fit the bill.Nice change from all the turkey and stuff. Am I alone in getting the chocolates from the big tins that no one else will eat .Mind you I like coconut :D . have a good day everyone
