OS Daily Monday 29th Dec 08

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday This is an “Over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well.

Morning... Yawn. Cold and Frosty morning and I dragged myself out of bed to get ready for work.
3 more days and then 5 days off.
Watched Top Gear last night and that was great, As always a challenge with a difference.
Still eating Turkey. Typical British thing of making as many different meals as you can with the bird. Turkey and parsnip curry last night, which was not all that bad.
The bones have been boiled for stock, so there is soup left in the old bird yet! The dog is getting it's fair share of pickings too.
Well, best get in the shower. The house is warm now that the heating is on, I hate to think how much oil and elec I have burned up lately.

Cheers

No frost here this morning, so I didn't have to scrape the car off. I've dropped hubby at the station, lets hope BIL remembers to get up & collect him!
The kitchen needs a swish & swipe & I'll do the bathroom too, apart from that I need to take a pair of shoes in to be heeled & have a look in the charity shop for a new handbag as the strap has gone on mine, I also need to look for my leather gloves, I have a pair somewhere, but can only find one at the moment.
I hope everyone has a good day,
    Hugs Hester

Morning N9eav - I had my heating on for much of the day yesterday so heaven only knows how much energy I've used. I shall be glad when this cold spell has gone.

I am off to my old place of work from 10 to 12 today just to cover the emergency shift; it means some of the permanent members of staff can have a few more days off. I don't mind; it's only ten minutes drive away and the extra money is useful. I'm doing the same tomorrow and Wednesday, too.

DH is back at work today, too.

It doesn't seem quite so cold this morning; there isn't such a hard frost as yesterday.

Well, I've had my shower and just need to get DH's (turkey!) sandwiches done for lunch, have breakfast then I'll do a bit of housework until it's time for work. I have portioned out the left over turkey - we had some yesterday for dinner, and I have enough for four more meals in the freezer along with the carcass, which I shall turn into soup over the next few days. I haven't wasted any of it. Dinner tonight is spaghetti carbonara - well, it makes a change from turkey, doesn't it?!

I hope all the poorlies are feeling better now.

    Have a good day.

Morning all and a belated Merry Christmas to everyone

After a traumatic week we are trying to get back to some form of normality here. We were told the week before Christmas that DH has motor neurone disease so it came as a huge shock and like a bolt out of the blue as we never even suspected that could be the case when we were referred to the hospital. It has been a rough 2 weeks since we were told but now it is a case of buckling down and getting on with it.

Despite that we had a lovely christmas with family and friends and had 16 round for boxing day lunch  I panicked at first when I found out how many we had but with lovely vichysoisse soup, cold smoked ham and cold beef and lots of salad stuff I got by and didn't break the bank.

Santa brought me a remoska so I am trying to work out the best way to use it :o At the moment it is sitting on my counter top like an alien being as I havent really had the chance to get to grips with it.

I have't had much chance to read the OS daily over the past week so I will just send big warm hugs to all that need them

    Mel x
  • Hugs to Mudgekin & hubby,
I used my Remoska for 6 months when I was without a oven, it doesn't take long to get used to it.

  • Hello everybody :santa2: Got in last night about 8.30 from Glasgow. Fortunately it was a straight drive unlike going up where we were caught in the closure of the M74 due to the police finding a body - poor love. House freezing last night and took ages to get warm (Mr Rage sat with hs coat on). Budgies very happy to be home and were up on the curtain rail in no time (unlike at his parents where they refused to come out of their house - the budgies not his parents! :rotfl: ). Did get a chance to pop on the internet at BIL's but no time for posting. Saw that there was loads of work on digital website but unforunately for me it appears to have all been done yesterday. So I will console myself with tidying, putting stuff on e-bay ad washing and cooking. Fancy something really simple today like shepherd's pie and so will have a rumage in the freezer. Very cold again here today - frosty and whit everywhere. Right, I'm back to bed to listen to something I taped whilst away - I really missed my DAB radio whilst up there - repeats of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" anyone? Still, at least it wasn't Catchphrase :rotfl:
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D

    Morning all,

mudgekin, I'm so sorry to hear your news.

I thought I'd pop in to say hello as I was up early this morning to get ds1 to school at 5.30am for his skiing trip to Norway. He's really excited so I hope it lives up to his expectations. There was one boy who decided at the last minute that he didn't want to go and refused to get out of the car! I really felt for his poor mum because school trips don't come cheap and if she's anything like us she'll have been saving for this for a while.

I've got yellow stickered pan au chocolat in the oven for breakfast for the rest of us and I'll make a big pot of hot chocolate to go with them. Not very good for the waistline but what the heck, it's still the Christmas holidays here as none of us go back to school /work until next Monday. Later we're off to Ikea to get a much needed new kitchen table and chairs...the old ones have been on their last legs for years. So no doubt putting that together will make for a fun afternoon. Mr Pink likes to attempt these things without looking at the instructions. Then when it all goes pear shaped he snaps at me because we can't find the instructions under the chaos he's created. I think I'll just leave him to it and go and play with my new toy, a cuttlebug that I got for Christmas, that I haven't had time to get out of the box yet. Tea tonight? Who knows! But I have a bulging freezer that should see us through to Spring to choose from.

I hope you all have a good day.

  • Morning all,

not made it here for a few days... the flu has pretty much gone (finally!) except for just a smidgin of a tickly cough when I got from indoors to out (or vice versa).

Must sort out the fridge today, I think there's some stuff that will have to be thrown out, unfortunately I've not been as on top of it as I would have been... As I've resolved that I need to start eating more healthily (and need to lose some weight) I must organise myself with food shopping again, and especially with regard to making tubs of sandwich fillings, and making soups for work. Middle DD is going to be my walking buddy so we're going to try & get out at least alternate days, once I'm home from work, otherwise I never get any exercise either.

Pink - I have a cuttlebug :) Been sorting out a lot of my crafting stuff the past couple of days, having put up some shelving/workspace in my bedroom (it was outside in my cabin, but it's too damp & I can't afford to get it lined/insulated yet).
Mudgekin, ((((hugs))) for you & OH. Sounds like you both have a very positive attitude, now that you've started to deal with the initial shock.
Rage - I have a mental image of the parents holed up in a bedroom, refusing to come out, lol!!

Hope all those others who have been poorly are slowly on the mend & thinking of those finding this time of year tough too.

    Morning peeps

busy day here at sunny towers, i need to go pick up a huge sack of food for the houndies and take Dad to the shops.
I`ve reserved one of those ab toner thingies in the argos sale and i can also use my gift card so a great bargain. I shall pick it up later and hide it from Mr Sunny.:D

Lots of ironing to get through and i also need to do a good mealplanner as well as spend a few hours in the kitchen so i`m not going to get much chance to sit down so i`d better make a start.

Mudgekin, i was sorry to hear your sad news before Christmas ((((HUGS)))) for you and your DH.
Enjoy your remoska, i`ve had mine a while and i wouldn`t be without it. Mrs Mcawber has perfected the recipe for huge yorkshire puds in the remmy and we use it quite a bit, toad in the hole is now a regular meal for us.:D

Best make a move, catch up later.
    Have a good day peeps.

Squiggly, I'm glad you're feeling a bit better....we all had 'flu the week before Christmas and all still have rotten coughs. Can I ask if you would recommend any particular folders for the cuttlebug that you get a lot of use out of. There are so many out there and being a relative newbie to card making I don't want to waste money on ones I won't use much so any advice would be appreciated.
