I had to check today whether it was fri 13th as have had a bad day! The car broke on my way to work!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

Have spent the whole day cursing and wondering how the hell on earth will be able to afford a new engine (after being told the engine had cooked due to the cambelt breaking) so cue tears and a full blown melt down in the managers office bout the debt we are in and floating just above the water level blah blah blah. Bless, its a good job she is a good manager who doesnt mind you off loading on her. It was really good though as she has been in the same situation and has said she will do anything she can to help,(as knows what a struggle it is) giving me more hours (but not loads of 12 hour shifts) and the like.

The car actually only cost £250 ish to fix but still could of done without it. Dont have quite enough in the car fund so wont be making such an overpayment to the hbos cc after all. But the car needs to go so will no doubt add to our debt buying a reliable car!

    Rags,

Your lucky it onyl cost £250 for the car after the cambelt snapping. We had a car once and it cost over £1000 for the engine to be rebuilt.

Incidentally, had the cambelt been changed following manufacturers recommendations. If so, I'd consider writing to the manufacturer to see if you can get them to cough. Depends how old the car is though....

My OHs colleague has an Audi and his cambelt just cost him £4000!! Well in actual fact its a cam chain in them and they had to get a specialist to srip engine to get to it!

Mummy - Ive no idea if you can overpay on Casrshop loan, I think they are all with different companies so I guess it would be down to the individual company yours is with. So mine might let you but yours not and vice versa, if that makes sense!
Debt at LBM [strike]£17,544[/strike] £5700

2020 the year of less - Less debt, less waste, less spending, less stuff, less stress!
  • Turns out that it wasnt the cam belt that had gone, the bottom pully had shattered so the cam belt (which is actually a chain im told) could go round cooking the engine:eek: It should of cost a lot more but we got it at mates rates as OH's friend owns the garage so only charged us 1 hour labour!!!!!

It actually got me to work today.............................................

It is soooooo hot up here at the moment, even just sitting makes you hot and sticky. Keep spraying myself with deodrant at work as paranoid that i will start smelling it is that hot. Good for my weight loss though as you cant eat much its that hot, spesh in our staff room as there is only a sash window that opens a smidgon and lets no breeze in. Health and safety would have a field day!!!!!! (sad that they are)

    Hi Rags,

My wifes a nurse and she works in theatre recovery which is a room with no windows. The air con packed up there yesterday and they had to cancel operations because it waqs so hot !!!!

I'm OK though - my offices are nicely ACed. LOL.
  • Whoo hoo, i made just over £12 on ebay!!!!!! bit pants reallt though as only sold 5 items out of 15, but some of them items i had already listed but not sold atthe begining of the year!!!!!!

Will get them posted out tomorrow as working thurs, fri and next mon and tues. Only waiting on one payment so not so bad. Will relist all those that hadnt sold tomorrow night and will try and list a few more items. Thinking if i can detail at least 2 items a day it should start to shift the stuff slowly.

OH got a cheque in the post this morning for his night out he did a week or two ago and gave it to me saying and i quote "another small amount to get the debt down"!!!!!!!!!!!!:D so tomorrow will have £38 winging its way to the hbos card. Its my payday in 10 days and OH did some overtime on sunday so should be able to make a few more payments soon. Also think our mobile bill came in under budget again and the childcare is only £6 under budget but every little counts!!!! Am hoping to go over the £3k mark this month!!!!!!

Anyone know the calculations for taking the tax and ni off wages??? with all this overtime i am purely guessing the amount i could be getting but would love to get it a little nearer. Just purely so i can know how much the hbos card will go down by!

Have decided to put the big amount of overtime i am hoping to get in august (no days off sick for me, time=money!!!! no matter how tired or ill i am) towards the hbos card as it will take it under £1k. We really dont know what we are doing with the car yet, we want rid but it is due an mot in sept and not sure whether we will get finance. The less amounts we have applied for between now and renewing the mortgage can only be a good thing. Hoping once we have got the debts down (and the high apr's gone) we can then put half the overtime towards saving for a car and the other half to pay off the debts.

Will have to see what happens in sept/oct as ds1 starts school full time so childcare will come down dramatically but so will the tax credits. Need to work out by then how much i will pay over next year including summer hols and turn it into weekly amounts so i can give the tax credit people an accurate account of what i will be paying. ooh, my childminder might do that for me actually as she does it all on her puter and her son goes to the same school so will already have the hols in there........................................................

Well, have had major acheivements in the rags household!!!! :D Ds1 can now tie his own shoelaces (pretty good at it to) and ds2 actually stood still then stepped one foot forward!!!!!!!!! he's getting there he just needs to stop giggling and jumping!!! bless him. My boys are growing up way to fast!!!!!

Its the 1st of july tomorrow, so cannot believe this year has gone so fast. Most of my bills come out tomorrow and on looking at my banking its not too bad, have got it nearly back to where it was before we went on holiday! think if we are good next month then will hopefully be a little better.

Still so humid here so off to have a shower and some ice cold water!!!!!! my freezer is full of ice cube trays once again but with water in this time not food!!!!

Hope everyone has a good first of the month tomorrow,
    love rags

  • Rags,

A very basic and rough way to work out net pay from gross is 2/3rds and a bit. Basically, you pay just under a 1/3rd in NI and tax usually.

Unless of course, you're a really low or really high wage earner....
