I think I could spend the next week on this website reading different threads and not actually doing any cleaning. Although that could also be a good thing as it means I won't have gone to the sales to spend any money either.

I'm glad I've found it as it seems like a fantastic place with lots of lovely people all willing to help out those who struggle. I'm looking forward to becoming a successful flylady....just not sure how many years it will take me to achieve it!!
It's very easy to spend time just reading different threads :o

Anyway we will consider that you have now joined us. Toots will be along with the 'official' welcome.

Be brutal - this time just iron the stuff that needs it. At least it will be out of the way, and the pile will be more manageable in future.

Last time mine got out of control. I went through and sorted as follows:
    • All small flat stuff (pillowcases, tea towels, napkins)... although I could get away without doing the tea towels, I do this lot first as I get a sense of achievement. They're all quick bits but the pile goes down fast!
    • All stuff with lycra in ... and then folded it neatly and put it away. The creases disappear when you wear it!
    • Stuff I only wear at home ... and then folded it neatly and put it away. No one sees me in it, so I can cope without having it done
    • Fitted sheets ... life's too short ... although I like it when the middle has been ironed, they go pretty flat when they go on the bed, so again, they're folded carefully and put away
    • Shirts/blouses - put them all on hangers in on the shower rail for the creases to drop out a bit. Any that clearly weren't going to recover did actually go back in the wash :o . The rest were ironed in batches of 3.
    • Trousers/skirts - all hung up for the creases to drop out as for shirts... and really bad ones abandoned to be washed again
    • Sheets/duvet covers - refolded as flat as possible and left until last. I then had to iron one to put on the bed, and decided not to wash any more bedding until the backlog was clear. You could, of course ... just this once... put one of them back on the bed without ironing it to get the pile down.
I then set myself a target for each batch of ironing, starting with cool iron items, then medium, then hot then back down again through medium and cool, just doing a couple at a time.

I'm sure you'll get there on time ;)
  • Fireangel as pigpen says you have joined now so WELCOME!!! you will see such a difference if you try to follow pigpen's lists - they are brilliant - not just for cleaning but for de-cluttering too - if you wait until you have decluttered before you join us it will just get you down even more - so dive in and start with us tomorrow!
make sure you read the first post with all the info and abbreviations.
a new list is added every evening (this weeks is a bit different but we will be back to normal next week) and you do what you can no matter how small!!!
There is no such thing as failure on here - every little thing you do is success! Remember your house didnt get in a mess overnight and wont get tidy in a day - you need to take BABYSTEPS. I was like you and still am if truth be told - I used to stuff everything in boxes and dump it in the bedroom - I am still a hoarder, still in a muddle but my house is more orderly and cleaner! I have routines that nevr existed before. It gets easier every week - believe me. So please dont get yourself stressed - get stuck in and do what you can - post your list and we will help and encorage you - and if you spend too long on here we will boot your bum off too!!!
We have loads of fun but the support and encouragement is simply THE BEST!!!
ask any questions and we will try to answer you - sometime you will get a sane answer but more often than not it will be insane!!!
welcome to the totally bonkers mad house!!!!

    Ironing all done

Descalling Greenbee - I simply pour in neat white vinegar - leave a while and pour out. Sometimes I heat it up a bit if it is really scaley.

    Off to bed now.

    See you all tomorrow.

Well done Dusty... I'm trying to make sure I don't create any more before New Year!

  • yes froddy we had better do our own challenge!!!

fireangel as Froddy says if we had tidy houses we wouldnt need this thread - we all have problems of one sort or another - and everybody has different home circumstances ie. children, jobs, OH's etc - we all need this thread to get us organised and have some hope of being tidy!!!

greenbee thats a brilliant list and thanks for taking the time to type it - I kind of do that already but will start from scratch again tomorrow - for now I am going to put what I have ironed away and tidy up. I need to be up sharpish tomorrow before dragon comes!
