HI,
I have a book and I write everything down, I know that a lot of people add their receipts up afterwards (and I do keep them) but I couldn't rely on that because it's quite likely that I'd lose some. Another good tip that I have picked up today is to put the grocery money in a tin and use from that, making sure that you put back any change so it can add up. :T
Try spendingdiary.com to write down your spending its a HUGE eyeopener and it stores all your figures online. The money tin is also a great idea:D0 -
Can I join this please? It might spur me on to stick to the budget in the face of tempting wine offers! My target will be 200 for the month for 2 adults, 1 3-yr-old, a puppy and a cat.0

My month started on 23rd & I have spent £41.70 over the last couple of days. However, this was for a big shop & other than fresh milk & fruit should easily do the next couple of weeks, if not longer.
DD has been with her Dad the last week & will be home tomorrow & with me for a week. I don’t want to have to do a supermarket shop with her in tow if it can be avoided, so I hope I have enough in until she is back at school, which is the 6th.
We have medium sized Mr T & Mr S within about 100 yards of each other. Have decided to try Mr S for the main shopping & Mr T for top-ups rather than mainly Mr T.
I ran a sample shop through mysupermarket at Mr T & then swapped to Mr S & Mr T was cheaper. But when I did the shop starting at Mr S & then swapping to Mr T, Mr S came out cheaper (even after running the swap & save)!I think that the swaps are not always like for like & seemed to sometimes upgrade, eg from value/basic to own & from own to branded.
I’m already getting a feel for what is better value in each, so will probably end up splitting the shopping accordingly & as they are so close together it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle. As my over all grocery spend is quite small it seems uneconomic to drive out to find a bigger store.0 -
PLEASE PUT ME DOWN FOR £220 FOR JANUARY0

I might start doing the grocery challenge again, I like giving myself these litle challenges although after a couple of months i'll probably get bored again, I get bored of everything  It's a bit confusing how i'll work it out though. OH gets paid on the 15th then we usually do a big shop after that, the last big shop came on the 21st Dec, so do I count that as my Dec or Jan shopping?
I wont do another proper shop now until after the 15th Jan. I suppose i'd have to count it as Jan because that's when we'll be eating most of it?
Might try and hold off now shopping until the 1st Feb and then it's very straight forward :rotfl:
So I will leave it for this month but I will join the feb one. I'll keep an eye on how much we're spending this month. I usually allow £150 into the budget but whether we spend more or less is anybody's guess :rotfl::heart: Think happy & you'll be happy
I :heart2: my doggies

Hi Mrs McC
Am new to the forums (taking the time to pluck up the courage to join) and this is one thread that I have been waiting for. Can you add me to your masterlist please for £260 for January 2009 please.
I look forward to getting to know you all as the months go on. Here's to a successful MSE year, one and all.I got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.0 -
Hi there,
Can I be put down for £200 for January please? I copped out in Decemebr, but have lots of stuff now to keep us going, snack-wise anyway!! I'm going to get back to meal planning and being a lot more organised than I have.;)I really need to sort out a new signature!0 -
Heavens, I've not done this for a while and doesn't my bank balance show it!!
I have a 3/4 full freezer and half full pantry but need to get back to planning and making dinners from scratch again - I just haven't had the energy recently so my grocery bills have soared... Please put me down for £200 for January. I need to do a shop in the next few days so will attempt a monthly plan tomorrow to ensure that I stick to this0
