Im glad I saw this thread Its reminded me Id forgotton GHD have my GHD's and I need to get them back. Mine are out of warrenty and they say they cant fix them but I can have a new pair for £90.
Not much of a reduction?
Since mine broke at beginning of December I got the Babyliss 230's for £22 at John Lewis and have got on fine with them - they are a bit more chunky to hold but work well on my hair equal if not better to ghds I have to say.
I did wonder about getting my ghds back and getting them fixed as friends have used a service off ebay for this but dont know if this is a good idea?
Trouble is GHD are saying they want a £10 admin fee plus postage to return them to me - now they never told me about this when I sent them or rang them - and I had to ring them nearly a month after I sent them as I had not had a letter off them to say about my straightners. I think £10 admin fee is not right as they had not notified me of this when I rang customer services to ask where to send them to - was just told Id need to pay postage both ways (£2.50 to send them)
Whats everyone think of this? Thanks Alison
It does say about the admin fee on the website - I was told they could not repair my daughter's so sent in the admin fee and got a brand new pair back cos they could not find hers! My guess is they bin them when they can't repair them but I have the advantage of a husband that can repair electronics so he was willing to give it a go!What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
Bad news- I was going to do the same, so asked my local boots if they could order some in for me and they said they weren't selling GHDs any more. I called customer services who confirmed Boots have discontinued selling them, so there wont be any more stock going on sale on the website or in stores. Cheapest place now I've found is Feel Unique- £94.95 delivered, with 7.5% Quidco cashback... not as good as Boots advantage points but better than nothing!
OhThat's a real shame. Now I'm in two minds whether to for out on GHDs or to try the Babyliss 230s. If the Babyliss ones aren't that good then I've wasted money because I'll still want to get the GHDs but if they're really good then I'll have saved money that I didn't need to spend. Hmmmm decisions, decisions

Well the babyliss 230s have had good reports, but are they the red ones? if so personally I have seen them and they look too chunkey to get smaller parts of hair straight. The black ones don't look too bad but some others (above) have mentioned the handles getting hot!
Am gutted if boots are stopping selling ghds and think we should all email them and ask/plead them to bring them back! was saving up my boots points for them!0 -

I have thin hair however my hair is very stubbern so if it doesnt want to go straight it wont so straightners like babyliss and the other cheaper makes dont seem to work as good.... i was bought the ghds over 2 yrs now and they still work perfectly.... no matter what ones you get they damage your hair so either way dont use them on a daily basis other wise your hair will just get dry and split.... any one you know got a pair of ghds or babyliss so you could try them out and then decide or buy them and then sell them if they dont work im sure one will buy them after 2 or 3 times of use providing they look as good as new...ive not got the babyliss so i can comment on them... good luck0 -
My wife really wanted a pair of GHDs but too expensive. She had her hair straightened for an event by a friends GHDs and in the meantime I ordered the Babyliss 2085U from Co-op electrical for £29.98 delivered http://www.coopelectricalshop.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?ProductCode=BAB-HAI-2085BU-X
We read the reviews on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/BaByliss-2085U-Pro-230%C2%B0C-Straighteners/dp/B000BFN80I/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top before ordering and once they arrived next day from the co-op electrical she tried them and found they are just as good as the GHDs.0 -
Arrgghh! It seems very much a personal preference thing? I don't know anyone with either, and my friend has also suggested SHE or FHI or something along those lines too! Now I'm even more confused0

There's loads of different 230 models. Which ones are the best? Is it these?

Or is everyone talking about these?

I'd prefer to buy from Tesco for the points if I can't get GHDs from Boots0 -

I got mine from here 4 years ago, and mine are still going strong. I got mine delivered next day and that was at xmas! You get a product thrown in as well. Very good service.
I'm a mobile hairdresser and have tried many different brands, but i love GHD's. When these break i'll be replacing with ghd's. Plus the new ones look even better than my old one's.0 -
My mum has GHDs, I have gone through babylis, remmington and vidal sassoon, personal taste I know but GHDs just feel sleeker to hold, seem to me to get the job done faster/with fewer applications of the straightener and so may cause that little bit less damage. IDK but personally GHDs are the only thing I will be satisfied with, otherwise I know how my mind works, I'll still want the GHDs if I don't get them and some way will end up buying a pair, making the whole babylis thing counter-productive (I will end up buying both.)0

I got these Babyliss pro 230's from John Lewis at £23 but they seem to have gone up a bit now? Back then they were about £26 here - in Dec. Got them as a stand in for my broken ghd's but now thinking Im not going to spend £90 on a new pair of ghd's as really like these babyliss ones, they seem to do a good job. Loved my ghd's but my 2 pairs have both broken just after the guarentee was up:rolleyes: these have a 5 year one.
