Is it a good idea to buy from Boots instead? I mean hopefully they wouldn't be selling fake GHDs! I am looking to buy one for my sister and need advice! Thanks in advance.

Boots is the best option, knowing you have lots of face to face stores to go too if there are any problems. When my sister worked in a salon they did lots of good offers on GHDs too.

Just remember to go through cash back sites, have a root around for money off vouchers too. Just to make it alittle more MS!

I have my hair done at the hairdressers with GHD's but bought some FHI's a couple of years ago (they are exactly the same as GHD's, made in the same factory but just a different badge, oh and half the price) and they are just the same, the finish is the same, they heat up within seconds and the casing stays cool, I would highly recommend them, I would never buy GHD's when these go, I will just get another set of FHI's, but I agree all the rest are rubbish

I personally think that GHDs are better than FHI's. They are a much cheaper equivelant, I had a pair for about two years until the exploded (yes smoke, sizzling the lot :( ) Although I liked the FHIs the hair did not stay straight for as long and left my hair burnt quicker than the GHDs I have now.
Worth the extra ££ I would say.

I am looking for a GHD straightner as a gift for my wife. Cheapest I could find on the internet is on ghdplaza.com for £63 with 37% off. I could not find any reviews for this website on the internet. Has anybody shopped from this website.I am not sure if they sell the original GHDs or not?

You could contact them and ask them to give you a serial/product ? number off the straightners and go onto the proper GHD website and check if the product is genuine.

    What make are FHI's please?

The make is FHI, but they are exactly the same as GHD's in every way but the name and the plates are red not gold, they are made in the same factory as GHD's but just cheaper

Maybe you just got a bad pair, I have had mine for 4 years now and they are still like new, but I can understand why that would put you off!

  • You may do as well to check out your local hairdressing salons, my wife got the latest purple set with bag, mat, hairdryer etc etc for £99. The rrp and selling price on Ebay is about £150-£160.
She went back for another set for my daughter just before Christmas and the girl said they would be going up in the new year to £150 so make haste!

They did work for 2 years to be fair and I would say they were 2nd best to GHD. Just think GHD's keep hair straighter for longer but I do have quite kinky hair and like the wide plates.
  • hi there

I have had cheap Remington straighteners until this week.

Before that, i'd been borrowing my friend's GHD's on a regular basis and i agree they are brilliant.

HOWEVER.... With my Amazon vouchers this Christmas i bought myself a pair of these Babyliss straighteners:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/BaByliss-2085U-Pro-230%C2%B0C-Straighteners/dp/B000BFN80I/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

I can honestly say (i have no reason to be biased) that these are 100% just as good as GHD's. The only downside with the Babyliss ones is the handle can get hot if you have them on too long.

Seriously, i can't recommend them enough and they're reduced from £60 to £22.19, and Tesco and some others have already matched that price.

Based on yours and gremlin's recommendations, I have just ordered some of these for a friend who cannot afford GHD's and needs some decent straighteners, so hopefully with Free Super Saver delivery, they'll be here in a couple of weeks and a late Xmas present! Not that she needed any more, but hey, i'm still in festive mood!
