got my OH a desperately needed coat in bhs reduced to £30 from £50. got DS some tops and trousers in Next half price. got myself 2 body shop gift sets half price (i buy them in the sales every year rather than have them under the tree at full RRP) but i needed a new love your body card so that negated some of the saving. picked up some xmas cards in clintons and decorations from M&S for next year again half price. best buy was devil may cry 4 for the ps3 reduced from £44.99 to £14.99 in game. the only two huge queues i saw were in game and gamestation, HMV looked very busy. otherwise fairly dissapointed with the sales, i have had many better years than this bargain hunting.

  • I haven't had much chance to look yet but had a load of bits in fat face.
  • i got a great bargain in lush spent £24 and got a £25 gift for free!!! i love this offer. debenhams had some cheap perfume deals £10.50 for jlo miami glow and desuru 30ml, had a quick check on the shopbot and couldn't find them any cheaper. also got some leather ankle biker boots from there for £25. then an extra 10% off if you paid on your store card. i was quite happy in there. boots perfume deals were also good anna sui 30ml + shower gel/ mostuiser (can't remember which) for 14.50 ish, the perfume alone is £22 in store and i couldn't find a 30ml bottle cheaper on the shopbot. it was extra good as i paid using points!!
the perfumes will last til next year if stored in a dark cupboard and you can use the extra's yourself- bargainous 2009 xmas pressies.

i avoided the main clothes shops in leeds today it was 2 stressful but was happy the bargains i got.

Just been to tesco in carlise, it was fantastic, trousers down to £3 from £12, silk tops down from £23 to £4.50, party dress dowm from £25 to £12, and loads of other stuff, I spent £40 and got loads, most stuff 75% off I am very happy.
  • Wilkinson was quite good, but all the other shops were pretty rubbish. Friend got jewellery 70% off in Dorothy Perkins and HMV calendars were reduced fairly low, but not alot of goodness in the sales, but the streets were packed worse than before Xmas, so either all the bargains were had or people had been suckered into coming out for the 'sales'.

As usual only the likes of Wilkinson seem to have genuine sales, NEXT sell stuff no-one has ever seen before or want. On another forum, someone posted B&Q kitchen price list from Autumn, and then for the sales...guess which was cheaper..... Any one for the DFS Sale :rotfl:

  • i've been much skinter this year than usual... cashflow a problem so couldn't really afford to spend anything at all in the sales... so i'm quite glad they are rubbish cos then i don't feel like i'm missing out!! this thread has helped.

nothing that i really wanted before xmas has been reduced anyway, and i've been strict with myself and walked away from loads of 'sort of bargains but actually not that nice and not that cheap'. which actually feels good :j

i feel quite happy with the few little treats i've allowed myself. kind of by accident i seem to have applied a simple rule (for once!) -

under a fiver (more or less) and at least 70% off.

as a result my little haul consists of a pure silk blouse (that i nearly bought at full price in tescos), space nk handwash, 2 neals yard moisturisers (my favourite), 'millers antique price guide' book from wilkos, and a pack of 50 'make your own cards' from whs. Full price = £115 , total cost to me = £23 :D

i posted on grabbit already but wanted to add my tuppence worth to this thread as this experience has really made me think how small treats can be just as satisfying as bigger ones that end up languishing in the back of the wardrobe anyway - and how i hope i remember this lesson!

  • For the first time in many, many years I haven't even bothered to go out to the sales. And there is very little reported on these forums to tempt me out or online to buy. I appreciate that if you have kids with friends to buy party gifts for and so on, some of the reduced gift items are a good deal. Or, if there was that one particular item you were waiting for a reduction on it is great.

However, I don't see anything much being posted that is worth going out for from my personal perspective. There has been so much hype about the sales this year and it is ridiculous. It is exactly the same as every year as far as I can see. Like every year the stores get everyone in a frenzy and sell, mainly, a whole pile of purely Xmas stock in the week or two after new year. Then, particularly with the clothing companies, the real winter stock starts creeping in during the last couple of weeks of January. The other retailers get the post Xmas sales dip and start reducing everything in late January and February. So unless you want a christmas line cheap, just wait, it will get a lot better, particularly on the electrical/computer goods.

As an aside though, I think there's some rather patronising stuff knocking around on this thread and others. It would be nice if we could all take it as read that other posters who are buying items at a reduced price have the intellect to do so because they can afford to make these purchases, need these purchases, and have done their research prior to making these purchases. Anything otherwise is simply dumb and patronising.
