Is it me or are the sales rubbish?

I've only been looking for things I wanted/liked before the sales - not that I'm in the market for buying much at all at the moment! Debenhams had 70% off bras (v.handy when mine cost what they do) but most of them were in novelty sizes like 28HH.0

i haven't been impressed but i've only been to Ashford so far, off to Canterbury tomorrow though, which is much better! i did manage to get some shoes for 12 instead of 25 from new look, ones i wanted before they went on sale...finding shoes is always happy for me because i am a size 9 so its often hard to get the bargains!Wins 2012: £50 Love2Shop voucher, Lets Dance tickets, Juan Zelades CD, bluetooth speaker, Blackberry 9360 with £30 credit a month, Chocolate, Maybelline Goodie Bag, Hunter wellies!0

I think everyone has just got sick of stores and their never ending sales
its just the little boy who cried wolf story, we just dont believe them anymore, if they have a sale on every month there is no novelty and everyone knows that a majority have just started advertising the rrp and then took £2 off, making it still the same price as everyone else
i think the shops need to realise that as a nation we have realised our own buying power and we have sites such as this and hukd helping us find better deals, this is why many stores are going under, i also think due to the credit crunch we have all just started buying what we really need rather than what the stores have led us to believe we need/want
A big thanks to all the comp posters for their effort0 -

I'm so glad so much people agree with me. I thought I would have been sent in the naughty corner.
But thanks to this thread I'll be zooming down to Debenhams to grab one of those 'novelty' bras. I'm a 30 HH!!Third time lucky on WW I hope :j

I found some genuine gardening bargains in a Wyevale garden centre today (fertilisers and the like) but everywhere else was awful - Tesco being the absolute worst! Adding insult to injury there was the cunning way they had stocked the shelves so that sale itrems were cheek by jowl with full-priced ones - few of them with price tickets. I hate to think how many were conned, picking up expensve items they imagined were on offer!
This whole sale season has been an exercise in spin and the media must shoulder a lot of blame for whipping-up the hyesteria - most notably the BBC!0 -
It will all come out in the wash anyway. As all that matters is what goes through the tills. It's a buyers market and we will get some good deals or they close down. Makes a change! I just wonder how many shops will still be there this time next year?NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0

I'm also very disappointed with what i've seen in terms of sales, and completely agree that there is a lot of price manipulation going on. Woolies appear to have increased the price of their bargain basket CDs to as much as 10 or 12 pounds, before the 75% off is applied. Superdrug in Truro had virtually nothing reduced, despite the store being plastered with sale posters. River Island was a big jumble sale, filled with dreadful clothes which only seem to appear when they have a sale.
The whole sale experience has set me back just £1.20 this year....... For parking!0 -
Ive been quite disappointed with the sales aswell. Got some stuff from Mothercare for my 2 boys although nothing was really a 'bargain' but it was needed so still saved some pennies.
Been quite disappointed with Argos. Got vouchers for Christmas and there is absolutely nothing i want that has a decent amount off. Most things are between £1-£5 off! Was hoping to get some bargains since im skint lol.0 -
My husband and son have just come back from shopping in Leeds and on peeling off the 'clearance' £7.99 label off from a CD (bought in Zavvi) found the original price was only £5.99 - so he was paying £2 MORE for the so-called 'bargain'! Another CD that claimed to be a special clearance price of £4.99 was, on peeling the label off to reveal another underneath, originally 2 for £10 (i.e. £5 each), therefore saving 1p on the original price.
Also, funny how after a brief post-new-VAT period of odd prices, everything is gradually reverting back to £X.99... everythey they bought today was something 99. So, in effect, the VAT isn't being passed onto the shopper - just the shop taking a bigger profit.
Husband and son say sales were rubbish. Worse than usual. Most of what they bought were full price items, not sale items.0
