I'll probably be vilified for this post.
But I think the sales are rubbish. I was in Watford today and was bitterly disappointed.
I think the retailers are playing a psyhcological trick on us all- and it appears to be working.
In my mind a bargain is only a bargain if
A : You wanted it when it was full price and
B: It's at least 50% off cos there's a general mark up in shops of 100%
Please peeps don't be fooled by all the hype.

I agree.
I looked at some items before Christmas (particularly a TV and camera) and post-Christmas I find:
- shops that have "sales" with discounts no greater than they had before
- shops that have items at good prices do not then discount these in the "sale"
- shops with big discounts had over-priced products to start with, so still are not any better than average
I also particularly noticed before Christmas when Dell Outlet increased their money-off offer from £45 to £100, but put their prices up about £80.0 -
Me and the missus went to Oxford Street yesterday (Selfridges, John Lewis etc) and Knightsbridge today (Harrods, Harvey Nichols etc) and has to be the worst sales ever.
We didn't buy one single thing apart from lunch on both days.
The only decent sale was in Boots.
Sales are a big con in to make us consumers think we're getting stuff cheap, with crap that stores cannot sell.0 -
i agree you need to be in the right place at the right time for the bargains, however the pre xmas sales were better than the post xmas sales. Me thinks there are other stores for the big aims very soon0

All the other sales were rubbish except PC World.
I got a wireless modem router (Really good one) for £14.970 -
Agreed about pre-Xmas sales being better - we have all our 2009 Xmas and birthday pressies for family/friends bought already - most of them at 75%+ off RRP and all bought before Xmas Eve. Only had to leave the house once (Asda 80% off Xmas gifts day) as well, lol.Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Sales are pointless imo, if you dont get anything you certainly come away battered and bruised from the hordes, i dont bother with the sales to be honest, id rather stay at home0

I was looking at a Dell laptop in Currys on Christmas eve- £381. Today- £391:p0
