Is it me or are the sales rubbish?

Yes, I agree the sales so far have been crap.
I can only assume the discounts aren't as big due to all the reductions and promotions before Xmas this year.0 -
I nipped into PC World today to buy OH a PS2 for his birthday and found it reduced to £35!!!! Twas the last one as well!!! What a bargain....
(went into some other shops to see what else was to be found and I fully agree...a load of rubbish!!)'' A man who defends himself, has a fool for a client''0 -

But I think the sales are rubbish. I was in Watford today and was bitterly disappointed.
I think the retailers are playing a psyhcological trick on us all- and it appears to be working.
In my mind a bargain is only a bargain if
A : You wanted it when it was full price and
B: It's at least 50% off cos there's a general mark up in shops of 100%
Please peeps don't be fooled by all the hype.
I totally agree with you. I popped into Watford yesterday with my daughter. I bought her a reduced bag in Accessorize and a reduced cardigan in Monsoon. There were definitely bargains to be had in Monsoon, but I was not looking for anything dressy. Not everywhere was open, so it was difficult to gauge. I presume there must have been bargains in River Island, because there must have been 50+ people queuing to pay. Boots was fairly disappointing. I did find a very nice Armani watch in Goldsmiths reduced to half-price. I bought it for my son, as he was after a new watch. He does like his designer stuff, but only when it is half-price or less. Both Superdrugs were a complete waste of time. We popped into Tesco and they had not reduced a great deal. The cowboy boots my daughter wanted were not reduced, so she won't be getting those.
In Borehamwood today, the Laura Ashley shop had some good reductions, if you like their clothes. Next, there, at 11am was just horrible and messy. I did get a lovely 3 piece baby outfit in M&S reduced from £15 to £5. That, to me, is a bargain. I needed a present for a cousin we will be seeing on Monday.
I am hoping that within the next few days, some stores will reduce their sale items further. I know Monsoon did that last year. I bought a lovely jacket on the first day of the sale for £90, and within the week, it went down to £75. By the following week, it had gone down to £50.
I think it is a question of time and patience.0 -
Given we already had 'sale prices' before Christmas this year, I don't suppose the "January" sales are going to give us a marked contrast in pricing. Of course, there will be some bargains out there but for me it's not really worth the hassle. Would sooner be spending the time with family than battling with strangers in shops.

yes pretty rubbish tbh (apart from the Lush instore offer).
Have not been able to find my DM boots in brown for less than £60 (they are only £65 usually).
Dad gave me some money towards an oven. The ones we want have discounts of £12 or £1.19
Oli sent me a 75% off email but most of the stuff seems to be from last summer.
ASOS is the same as it was before Christmas. No further discounts even though they still have lots of really nice stuff in stock in all sizes.
I need an imac but a big powerful one for editing lots of video. No luck there in the sale department.0 -
Haven't bought anything in the sales, went in town today and you would think the world was about to end - people grabbing anything. I think some people just get caught up in the hype and buy things that -
1. they do not need
2. could buy cheaper if they just took their time and shopped around
When the gas/electricity bills start coming in soon, some people will regret their big buy's!0 -
This a is good question but not really a grabbit.0

I haven't been to a shop since christmas eve. I think I'll wait until New year as that's when I bought lots of presents for birthdays and christmas this year.0

I do agree for most shops, however, I got some lovely and needed kids clothes in Next, and some half price goodies in the Body Shop. Also got some more nice kids clothes in Sainsburys pre X-mas. Appart from that, not much else that tempted me to part with my little spare money. M&S and Superdug topped the disappointing league.0

Yep not impressed. Some stores are offering huge discounts, but there is not much stock in those offers. ASDA usually has a good selection of mens' shoes and trousers etc. This year ONE style of trouser, no shoes and little else. As it happened I did find a matching pair and bought a nice suit for £24, but on the whole not worth much more of my time.
I prefer USA anyway... If you have ever been there, their sales are superb.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0
