Carer? oh you're a carer? well I'm a part-time carer for my father and my sister - my father has cancer and my sister is in the secondary progressive stage of M.S., so yes I am speaking from first hand experience. My sister might have gotten extra money I am unsure as she hasn't told me but she totally struggles so much every day that getting an extra 20 quid is the absolute furthest thing in her mind.

life is getting easier for the scummy trash that work the system is what i was saying.

and yet my partner's ex who is being charged with benefit fraud gets an absolute fortune so yes I reiterate to you that yes it is getting easier

Yeah - this is the distinction we need to make.
Criticising the scroungers does not equate to opposing welfare.

It's about stopping people abusing welfare which will benefit both the taxpayer and the welfare system itself ... and consequently the people who genuinely need to rely on welfare.

Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.

While at the same time making sure that the system is simple and easy to implement, so that we don't spend vast amounts of money managing it.

    I think it was a joke-let....
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

It wasn't. Every post of mine is a small nugget of serious economic majesty.

    Honestly.

    Carer? oh you're a carer?

Well, no. Unless you count the one day every year or so after Mrs Cleaver's work's night out when I have to help her in to bed.

Having said that, how do you define carer?

These comments are different to your first comment which didn't distinguish between people fraduantly claiming benefits and those not, so we're probably in vauge agreement.

Iny my worthless opinion if you are in favour of a benefits system (which most reasonable, caring people are) then you have to accept that a small percentage of people will take advantage of it. Again, just my worthless opinion, but I don't think that it has got any easier or more commonplace to trick the system - it's just become a lot more popular to state this as fact as we have newspapers such as The Daily Mail that fill the majority of their pages with anomalous stories about it.

It's the same as today's myths that crime is worse than ever, teenagers are worse than ever and football isn't what it was.
PS in case you are wondering no I don't claim any money for caring for my sister and father.

Why not? You should do. It's one direction I like to see my tax money heading.

Thank you Paulgonnabedebtfree, I'll look into that Freecycle thing, I don't have transport myself but have friends who i'm sure would help me out if need be.

Thank you also Strapped, unfortunely I'm nowhere near Devon but thanks for thought.

i have no problem with those who justify benefits i do however have a problem with the 'can work but refuse to work' crew who think the world owes them.

as for defining a carer, hmm i would say someone who cares enough about the person to help them maintain a decent living, but according to carers uk:

Carers UK has defined carers as people who "provide unpaid care by looking after an ill, frail or disabled family member, friend or partner". Adults who act as carers for both their children and their parents are frequently called the Sandwich generation.
Around half of all carers are effectively excluded from paid employment through the heavy demands and responsibilities of caring for a vulnerable relative or friend. Their work has huge economic and social impact.
