We got $2000 from that ever so nice Mr Rudd - $1000 for each of the Generalissimos along with an exhortation to spend the money on something Australian rather than just saving it (we're going to save it).

I'm pretty chuffed although will be less so once I paying for it rather than getting the cash.

I'd like some free money. All my income and interest's been taken from me by the Govt/interest rate and general downturn.... well below the poverty level this month. Made US$530 + interest peanuts.

Full on jobhunting starts end of next week.
  • Yep, thanks for that.
I don't have paid employment as I am main carer for my three disabled children.
I haven't "worked damn hard" - oh no not me.
Fancy swapping? You can have my £50 a week for being on call 24/7 and I'll do your job.

But you'll get it if your children get DLA, won't you?

Perhaps you can claim that you've been growing olives and so get a subsidy from the EU. It seems to work for Italian farmers.

hmmm.... land ... and subsidies. I wonder if a spot of research could identify the best subsidy to be gained for the cheapest/smallest acreage...

I've got a mad scheme to buy some derelict farmland (it exists in Aus) and buy a load of goats to clear the land.

The plant a load of trees and sell the carbon credits.

Then sell the land as a tree farm.

    £50 a week..mmm.

And Child Benefit 3 x £20, and DLA 3 x £113.75, and Child Tax Credit £???, and Income Support £???, and Council Tax Benefit £???, and housing benefit £??? and free prescriptions.... When compared to someone working and paying tax you must be on the equivalent of about £70,000 a year.
You would really feel annoyed if you were working long hours to pay to support other people's kids (and the other people) when you're struggling to support yourself and don't qualify for a bean of welfare, simply there to be plundered for the latest tax.

Good idea. I have been thinking of buying some land and planting a forrest.
Why? Dunno really, seems like sometjing a bit different to leave to my son when I pop my clogs.
Do you need planning permission to BUILD a forrest?

You don't always receive DLA for disabilities....two of mine are disabled but only one has DLA.

It has to be remembered that caring for someone of any age is more full time than going to work, it is not just 9-5 but 24 hours a day including the wee hours of the morning.

People with disabled children (or parents, siblings etc) didn't ask for them to be disabled but they have to cope with it as best they can... in a lot of cases, the DLA cannot be classed as income to be spent as you like, it has to go towards paying for their care be it special food, therapies, equipment, hospital travel or respite care for a break.

Plus it makes working extremely difficult if not impossible for some. I combined it for some time but then I had a husband here who could take on the childcare in the evening, unfortunately, he is no longer here and childcare provision for a special need child is not so easy to find although I never give up hope of one day finding that special person willing to take my children on so I can return to my old job and not be forced to find something that will fit into the care needs of my children (term based employment which every stay at home parent tries to get).

Having disabled children has taken me to the edge and back mentally and physically, I had a breakdown because of it, I have a completely boogered right wrist because of it, my back will never be the same and my social life is zip and at present, there is no hope of me finding another someone special as my life revolves around the children and their care.

So it is not just a case of collecting the money and saying "booger society", nope, it is hard slog, the hardest you can imagine, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year..year after year after year with no end in sight.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I definitely don't fall into any of those categories but was baffled to receive (just over) £10 on Xmas eve from my working families tax credit or whatever it's called - I usually get 1 payment every Monday, and had a mystery one on the Wednesday (xmas eve) with no explanation - it's not Bank Holiday on Monday, so could it be this???

How strange. Anyone else had a similar payment?

It's definitely not to do with Child Benefit, as that's paid monthly as a lump sum.

    Any ideas?
