As far as i know the extra £60 payment is for carers, pensioners and people with disability. This is to help cover the cost of winter fuel. I certainly do not begrudge a penny of it. These people are the most vulnerable in our society and we should look after them.

Hmmmm how many peeps are genuinely disabled though? I don't begrudge anyone who is genuine but I know of quite a few people who feign a 'bad back' and the next thing they are claiming disability benefits to the tune of quite a bit a month and living off the backs of hard working people.

As others have said, no one should begrudge anyone genuine (there but for the grace of god and all that) but a lot of people know shirkers and dole bludgers and those who scam the system and it is those who make me sick, quite frankly, and I make no apologies for saying so.

I will be getting this winter bonus and I have to admit I'm grateful for it, I currently live on IB and DLA which gives me the grand sum of £486 a month to live on. After haveing worked full time all my life, all be it on min. wage, it is still a big drop in money and the cost of prescriptions and essentials means the money does not stretch that far, I'm trying to put the heating on as little as possible now even though I know if I get too cold I get worst.
I allready know what I'm going to splash my £70 on, a new fridge because mine finally gave up working over christmas.

So I'm sorry you did not get a bonus at work, have to admit last couple of years our firm also stopped staff bonuses, which didn't go down well so I do know how you feel about that. But I won't appologize for accepting this money off the goverment, at least you have your health and can work at the moment and I've a feeling your surviving on at least a little bit more then I am.

Put your £70 back in your pocket and take a look on the freecycle website. I got a perfectly Ok second hand freezer on there from somebody. All I had to do was collect it in my van. Maybe you don't have transport? I'm sure you might know someone who knows someone who could assist with this.
Using freecycle is not some means tested government sponsored "jump through hoops" setup either.
I suggest that you google freecycle and the town where you live (or surrounding towns if you're in a very small one) and take a peek at the listings.

    Freecycle's great.

I got 3 TVs (a 30+" Hitachi and 2xSony 21"), a tumble drier, and some cycling bits through freecycle.

I can't believe that there are people who would complain about the £60 payment, or make posters who are entitled to it feel like they have to explain themselves. What a world we live in.

You beat me to that one but I just wish to say that I agree with you.

BTW. I am a hardworking taxpayer too. I happily support the fact some of my taxes go towards helping people who aren't fully able to support themselves. Maybe, one day, I will be in such a position too. None of us know what unexpected banana skins life will throw at us.

TV, Fridge-freezer, filing cabinet, pair of skis(all in very good nick).

It's a bit like the generation game. Not sure I'd accept cuddly toy.

If you happen to be in Devon, I know where you can get a free one. PM me.

Do you really think life is 'getting easier' for full time carers, war widows and people with severe disabilities?

I'd be the last person to say that our benefit system is perfect but only a very, very small percentage of people receiving this payment will the chavvy, workshy, scum you're imagining.

Carer? oh you're a carer? well I'm a part-time carer for my father and my sister - my father has cancer and my sister is in the secondary progressive stage of M.S., so yes I am speaking from first hand experience. My sister might have gotten extra money I am unsure as she hasn't told me but she totally struggles so much every day that getting an extra 20 quid is the absolute furthest thing in her mind.

life is getting easier for the scummy trash that work the system is what i was saying.

and yet my partner's ex who is being charged with benefit fraud gets an absolute fortune so yes I reiterate to you that yes it is getting easier

PS in case you are wondering no I don't claim any money for caring for my sister and father.

By the way, I have a £5 Zavvi gift token for the first person to mention that they're in a 'hard working family'.

and in case you are unaware Zavvi gift vouchers are worthless!
