This article came up in my Google news search. There's some pretty interesting stuff in there. I liked the geek demo of how to cook a hotdog using a battery:

You can stick a battery in your pocket and keep it there all year.... sausages don't fare so well.

I liked it too, but in a real crisis, I think I'd keep my batteries for more important stuff, like powering the radio.(Like all good tin-hatters and tight-wads, I have wind-up lights.) My firewood should take care of the sausages.

Anyway, I hate to be a killjoy, but hot dog sausages are already cooked!

Is that all birds or just seagulls - more pigeons round here but I suspect it would be hard to catch the blighters.

Not if you use the raisin method from "Danny, Champion of the World" ......;)

Pheasants are more energy-efficient, but I'm sick of pheasant! :(

Yeah, I know, but it was funny. I don't think if armageddon was approaching that you'd put the itty bitty light things in either. In reality I'd be a bit of a cr*p survivalist. However I do know you can eat baked beans cold Aussie style and do have a plentiful supply of water (and toilet rolls) as well as my stock of dried foods so I suppose I wouldn't be the among the worst off.

It's not just Aussie style, I've had cold baked beans in salad/buffet meals before... in fact I love a spoon of cold baked beans alongside a plate of salad. Flan/quiche, potato salad, beans.... can't go wrong.

I've got a wind up radio .... and it is a bl00dy wind up. It needs a battery to hold the wound charge.... and I've had it two years and not got round to getting a rechargeable battery for it yet.

Pastures this and your lack of food stocks are leaving me seriously worried about your survival skills for the impending financial armageddon. I can only suggest that you read this thread from the beginning and make steps to contact dopester so that you can share his dog.
