The dog just saw this thread on the front page again and rushed off to hide...
Isn't 2012 a(nother) year with lots of end of the world predictions?I think....0 -
I don't recall seeing this thread before and having had a little look through I think I am going to like it.
I can't sleep tonight but this thread might do the trick.

I had seen it before. Even posted on it, however the later posts I have missed are brilliant. A 'thanks' does not seem enough.0

Shame on you. I never read it the first time round as it was all a bit smacking of loonies .... and here it is again, but now over 660 posts long!!
There's NO way I'm reading this.0 -
Aw, c'mon Pastures. Read this in the right frame of mind and it is comedy gold. Just don't drink a mug of coffee at the same time as I have in the past. It will make you spit it out on the screen in a fit of laughter. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I'm not a tin foil hatter, but I prefer to be prepared.
I dont like suffering or a drop in my standard of living so keep things in stock. That's what people do when they live in the countryside, they dont assume that 2 days supply of tesco readymeals will keep them alive when they are snowed in for a week.
I'm the one who pops out to get some fresh milk instead of UHT. Because I want to, not because I have to. I could stay in, but I quite enjoy watching the panic.0 -
I don't disagree with you Abaxas. I have a reasonable stock of food here which if I needed to I could probably make last the best part of a month, largely because I keep stocks of staples such as dried pasta and rice. It's the line beyond that though, where seemingly rational people start planning for emergencies and the next step is that they've got a year's supply of food, or some form of shelter to escape to. I think that this attitude is more prevalent in places like the US though, particularly as there is more room to build a little escape space deep in the woods. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Some people like to be free from reliance of others. I do, but understand some things are better pooled.
If you really want to be scared, look at your 'rights' to water supply. It may come out of the tap, but it doesnt have to.0 -

Growing more of my own food & fuel was one of the reasons for buying a smallholding, but I'm glad I didn't purchase in the back of beyond where I'd be all on my ownsome.
There's many weeks' worth of food & wood/oil here, but I know now that I'm never going to be Ray Mears or Bare Gyrls. I've therefore befriended a few 'useful' people who have guns & country skills to share.
Together, I think we could probably see off those hairy-arrised bikers from the smoke.0
