More people with a sense of humour here. Also less racist.
  • I'm reading an absolutely fascinating book my mother gave me for Christmas, called "Nella Last's War" which was a diary kept by a housewife in Barrow-in-Furness from September 1939. ....

This was made into a TV programme called Housewife 49 starring Victoria Wood as Nella, it was very good. Parts of it were filmed here and we used to see Ms Wood waiting around complaining the shoes were killing her.

  • Oh spot on Gen. MSE is full of (mostly) pleasant chaps with varying opinions and life experiences, and between us we are a veritable fountain of knowledge.

Over on HPC it's all tinfoil hats and racist conspiracy theories.

There was a Radio 4 'Book of the week' serialisation of "Nella's Last Peace" read by Imelda Staunton a few weeks back. Caught some of it and it was very interesting.

Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.
  • imo HPC is more misogynist than racist, but I take your point. (((hugs))).

Somebody asked about bottling tap water (sorry can't be bothered to go back and see who it was and quote them). It doesn't work. You can bottle tap water for a day or two, but after that it starts to go green and grow algae or something. Bottled water doesn't do that.

PS Am loving this thread but sorry can't think of anything funny to add.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)
  • Ive opened my selection box now.

Do you think I will survive the armageddon on a twix and 4 chocky buttons?
Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. The one where you showed us Dithering Dad is a complete liar. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE Forum Team

You need to add a drop (literally) of strong bleach and keep it out of the light if you want to store water over the longer term.
