Probably not, I think you need a fair supply of chocolate. You might as well just eat them now.
    Just as a de-stresser ofcourse :D

Somebody asked about bottling tap water (sorry can't be bothered to go back and see who it was and quote them). It doesn't work. You can bottle tap water for a day or two, but after that it starts to go green and grow algae or something. Bottled water doesn't do that.

You can use water purifying tablets. Also storing the filled containers in a dark place will help prevent algae, it needs light to grow. Places like Countrywide Stores sell huge water canisters. We have needed them as our whole town is having the water main replaced, a section at a time, a process which has taken over a year so far. I've lost count of how many times we have turned on the taps to see brown water coming out.

There is no downside risk in stockpiling long life foodstuffs. If possible buy while on offer, replace and use in rotation and the peace of mind knowing you have 3 or 6 or 12 months worth of staples put by is very reassuring.

The Cubans still have basic foodstuffs rationed and never go to bed hungry. When the alternative is hunger it is quite suprising how palatable pulses and rice can become.

We none of us know what is round the corner but there is never an emergency if you are prepared for it.

i love this thread! just discovered it. by the way, the cubans apparantly did go hungry for a few years (after they lost soviet oil ahd aid very suddenly and had to become self sufficient in food). but now they do eat very well - they sorted it out by getting into organic and urban food growing and permaculture, in a big way. now about half of havana's food is grown within the city itself, the proportion is even higher in other cities. i recommend a film called 'the power of community' if you can track a copy down it's really inspiring!
