Wot and miss out on those lovely shiny tubs?

    They look so appealing...

You could stack them all the way to the ceiling, so storage wouldn't be an issue. And there must be a use/market for the tubs when they are empty.

    FFM :)

    Yup.
Use a hot poker to make holes in the bottoms and grow spuds in 'em.
Link several together with bits of hosepipe so you can collect lots of rainwater.
Store Dopester's dog food in them to protect it from the meeces.
Store Dopester in them to protect him from the zombie chavs.

Oops, sorry - better get back to the OS board before I get carried away (in a wooden box?) :p

I've been reading some of the madder posts to DH. He asked whether I'm sure I'm not just talking to myself.

Hmmn, where do you live - can I come and shop where you shop? Flour, bread, eggs, fruit, green vegetables like spinach and watercress, tinned sardines and sweet corn, rice, chocolate, have gone up hugely in price. At my local Sainsburys, the sardines went up from 35p to 42p. Things like rice didn't go up only because of the oil price rise but because the governments of the producing countries set a cap on exports, to help ensure that their own people could buy rice but it didn't always work, and there were food riots in some countries. Also, this has coincided with the problems caused by too much land being turned over to growing bio-fuels instead of food crops.

Anything imported is going to become horribly expensive or unobtainable.

Yeah, food has gone up quite a bit but I don't think it will continue to go up and will quite likely get a bit cheaper in the next year.

Having said that of course, most won't have seen wage rises that kept up with the increases in cost of living so even if it has stabilised, many people are still struggling.

that American year's supply of grub takes up 22 cubic feet, so you'd need quite a bit of space for a year's supply for all four of you!
22 cubic feet. *mentally thinks that through*
Just stack it against a wall in a bedroom. Drape a sheet over it.
22 one-feet-cubes could go 5 along the skirting and stack 4 high with 2 in the middle on the 5th row.

Food imported from the Eurozone (much of our fruit, for example) will go up as long as the pound continues to sink against the Euro. Ditto for the prices of any imported food paid for in US dollars.

Even better, make shapes out of them before hiding them under a sheet - a sofa, a couple of chairs - maybe a footstool, even? Probably just as comfortable (but a lot more hardwearing) than Land Of Leather crap!

You need to stockpile 2 litres of water per day per member of the family. So, how many days do you want to last out for, bearing in mind that you may get eaten by your neighbours just for your water content?

Right, I've taken your advice and stockpiled the required amount of water. Should be okay now.

And I've just discovered there's a basement in the house. Floorboards are weaker than you think.....

  • Why hasn't Dopester posted on here today? I hope we haven't scared him/her off with talk of Dopester casserole!

That's a good idea, seriously, rather than stack and store, create useful shapes out of the tins and packets. Large bags of pasta would make an OK beanbag.

Now you're talking, howabout a water bladder for the water storage problems which can double as a water bed?
