I am in exactly the same boat and have been in buyers shoes also ( http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1370451 ) .
Old PS2's do not travel well and often get damaged in post. I have had one sent to me and damaged and now a buyer is saying the same to me (he is slightly more dodgy though).

Like someone said to me. Get photos of it from him of ps2 and packaing/box etc. I would then start claim with delivery people. If it did not go for much i would let him hang onto it or just get him to post the controllers, games, leads back.
If he does a dispute with paypal you are likely to lose. The only way the other seller won was to take it to an expert when buyer returned it all .The expert did a report saying buyer did damage which would be hard to prove.
I would do what i am doing , claim from postage people and get what bits you want back from him and then refund(if it isnt really broken it will be when you get it back anyway so i wouldnt bother!)
    Good luck!
  • I just find it strange - emailing me now after nearly a month, as i sold loads of ps2 items on ebay at the same time and no one else has had any problems.... will wait and see though.

Maybe it was for a present and he never tested it until now.
I see what you are saying(i should have read that bit, sorry). It is a bit long after but if paypal will accept a dispute this many days after i would just grit my teeth and sort it. Maybe say that he will have to pay for it all to be returned and maybe when he realises that it is £10 he wont bother.
  • Firstly: when buying anything for a present on ebay, you test the item works , before leaving positive feedback !!!

the guy says: "Hello i recently purchased a ps2 off you and was quick to give you positve feedback as it arrived very quickly "

he reiterates the fact that the postive feedback was for quick delivery only!
To me he's back tracking ...........

HALLNAOMIUK: has asked what the fault is, so far no reply.......
To me , if he was genuine, he would have been back in touch straight away, saying "yeah m8, the fault is ................blah blah"

people may think i'm jumping to conclusions, but i've traded on ebay for 9 years, sold 50,000 items, i know every trick + scam they use.

i can smell a rat from 300 miles, sadly i smell a rat here.

only advice i can give is:
1/ let him open a dispute with paypal if he is persistant, a paypal decision maker will decide if he will get a refund.
You wont necessary lose, as previously stated. Paypal are fully aware of all the scams + tricks , ebays pull.
What will go on your side is he has left positive feedback, and left it nearly a month !!!,
time is the essence, paypal normally side with the buyer! but if the claim is within a short period of receiving the item, but after a month !! i'm not so sure

2/ you ask him to return the full package to you , for inspection, at his cost.
you will get the item professionally tested at your local SONY centre. if found to be genuinely faulty. a refund will be given.
IF the item turns out NOT to be faulty, the item will be returned to yourself, along with a bill for testing, i shall keep the documentation that states the item is 100% fully working, in the event a paypal dispute arises.
And shall forward it to paypal in my defence,

If he's trying to con you, he may just move on, as he see's he's wasting his time.
If the item really does'nt work, he'll do No 1 or 2

    good luck
  • Check if the seals are broken.People are known to exchange a working machine they bought with faulty machines or replace working parts with faulty parts.

It could have been dropped whilst in transit or something. PS2s and similar games consoles aren't the most robust of items to send. I dropped my OHs old xbox about 30cm onto a carpet (whilst in its box) which killed it!

Was this an old style PS2? I didn't even think PS2s were worth selling second hand any more!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
