Labour planning secret tax on 'nice houses'

Labour planning secret tax on 'nice houses'

wonder what the labour MPs residential area would be on the niceness scale when regraded as per this plan. bet that area would curiously escape the hike in tax, me thinks.

I dunno, maybe those who benefitted most from the economic boom should pay more during the bust.

If you can afford to move into these 'nice neighbourhoods' on easier credit, to take advantage of better schools for your children and so on, then you can afford to pay a little more in my view.

The first time I've seen a possible "silver lining" to having some louts living down the road then......

I can see my list now for the Council:
    - 1 overcrowded antisocial household - of right "litter louts"
    - 1 aggressive/drugtaking household
    - x number of houses where they dont maintain the place and it "drags the neighbourhood down"
    - y number of student households - with drum practice/loads of rubbish left higgledy-piggledy outside
    - too much traffic noise

I'll start drawing up a list of everything wrong with my neighbourhood now methinks....and then (having thoroughly depressed myself with how many aspects of my neighbourhood make it unsuitable to live in) I'll "cast out my bonnet" to see if anyone has had any dreams about winning Lottery numbers recently and might be generous enough to want to help me "escape" to a nicer neighbourhood.
  • Just one of many increases in taxes, methinks. We'll be paying for the government's decade of borrow-and-spend for many years to come, and so will our children. If only they knew the value of money to the rest of us they might spend it a little more wisely, and not throw it around so much.

Labour will never win the next election so it's a bit of a non-story IMO

Yep - I wouldn't be at all surprised to see an increase in property taxes as part of the raft of new taxation that's going to be required to fund all the hundreds of billions of quid they are giving away in the form of bailouts.

They'll have to be careful how they introduce it of course as direct taxation on property was shown to be manifestly unpopular with the punters but the 'council tax' has been accepted so they'll be looking at ways to get direct govt control of it and then ratchet it up to soak as many people as possible.

What a great idea though - live in a nice neighbourhood? Pay the government more tax for your good fortune or community efforts. Wonderful  You could extend it to what sort of view you have, or how nice your garden is ... the possibilities are endless.

Hey, why not bring back the Window Tax? Those rich so-and-sos who can afford glass should pay their way!

there are some other ways of looking at this problem

    AREA 1-
dont litter ur area, dont burgle ur neighbours, watch out for ur neighbours, dont hassle neighbours, teach ur kids good manners so consequently less trouble in area when everyone does this in the area, consequently they will live in a 'good area' due to the efforts the people in the area put in and they way their life style is, but now it looks like u end up paying more for leading a better way in the community

    AREA 2-
litter u area, burgle ur neighbours, play the drums thru the night and disturb the neighbours, drink all hours of the day and trouble the neighbours, dont take care of ur kids who become asbo demons for everyone etc etc etc consequently this area becomes not so nice to live in

but then this govt comes along with this brilliant plan to subsidise the 2nd group by penalising the 1st group for their good behaviour. just like everything else with this govt. penalise the good guys and encourage the scumbags. encourage people to be on the dole and penalise the working. let out criminals early from prison but prosecute homeowners who defend their house against burglars, keep on giving community sentences for criminals who repeatedly offend etc rather than lock them away and throw away the key(dont think there will ever be a 3 strikes and you are out rule like is there in some states in the usa where criminals get long sentences after 3 offences), subsidise the !!!!!! banks while ordering the better banks to lend like the !!!!!! banks. try to cut down everyones wage hikes while giving themselves massives perks and second homes and what not.

dont know what makes sense or what is a better idea anymore:confused:
i am not saying everyone in area 2 is at fault neither am i saying everyone in area1 is great but on the whole isnt the area good or sh1!!t because of what the people who live there are up to ?????? If that is true then shouldnt they be paying the price for their bad behavior or get credit for their good behavior rather than get fined.

No doubt 'nice' will mean 'elected Tory councillor'. There's no end to the sheer spite that spews forth from mean-spirited, jealous Labour types. That want all the trapping of wealth with none of the effort, so just take from others. At least thieves have some honour, socialists have none.
