Little idea OH came up with and I just remembered - I put it on the Thrifty Gift thread but thought I'd add if here as well.

If you've got any really small flowerpots (we had some little red ones with a seed pack)
cover the hole at the bottom with cardboard
    fill it with birdseed
Pop some perspex on the top (stop the seed falling out)and with a glue dot stick a Robin on it
    'Robin's Christmas Breakfast'

Think I'll add one of these to grandsons C hristmas Eve box this year

    Love that idea mary!!!

I got mine from The Papermill Shop http://papermilldirect.co.uk/ but I can't see them on the website???

Do you think I could punch holes in coasters and thread with ribbon to get the stand up effect of the Xmas calendar??

Mary - I brought something simliar - its a calender in pastel colours but you can add your own photo - its was in pound land. They are pretty though and i never used them last year so think I might this year - will have to check dates first though make sure it wasn't for last year!

thanks for the links rainmac. I love the countdown calendar and think I might attempt to make that for day 1 of the boys' advent box.

rainmac - thanks for the link. Maybe they'll have them later on in the year.
If you do a calendar in chipboard or cork it should stand up I'd have thought. (worth going to local pub and getting a few beer mats to try it out)

Sammy - sounds like the sort of thing I mean. I was thinking of putting family photos on the different months as a sort of birthday reminder.

Wow, I just finished reading every page of the 2008 crafty thread, I got tons of great ideas! Going to start this one from scratch now too, just wanted to say you're all amazing and creative, I don't know how you come up with so much stuff between you! I currently have a massive list of gifts/decorations that I'm going to make, made a start on my birdy tree decorations tonight and not happy with them :( It's only my first go though so going to start a new one from scratch and see how I get on.
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important

Yep they are. You can buy blank ones for scrapbooking/altering or could swipe a few from the pub ;)
