Where would society be without socialism?

Well my guess is that the citizens of the following countries would have been considerably happier without socialism (recalling that NAZI is an acronym which translates as national socialism):

The Soviet Union (20 million dead(?) from famine when collectivisation took place)
China (under Mao), similar death toll from famine.
Nazi Germany (lots of dead people for many reasons. Even if you exclude the dead due to warfare the Jews/Gays/Bolsheviks/Blacks/Browns/Gypsys etc add up to a lot of dead people
Cambodia (Pol Pot)
Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh)
etc

Even on Christmas Day the vitriol and visciousness still drip! The reason the Country has gone to the dogs is because the greedy B*'s at the top of the banking ladder were so busy getting themselves some individual wealth that they were not bothered about what happened to the rest of us and STILL when gross capitalism has crippled the Country (yet again) there are idiot out there that think that the greedy are innocent and will save the Country!:rolleyes:

The few dole scroungers in this Country will never be the biggest problem it has - and anyone who considers the wooly liberalism of Nu-Labour to be anything to do with Socialism has no idea of what socialism is.

As to "re-distributing" the wealth - yeah they have, the rich got richer, the middle classes and the working classes just got a smaller pot stretched even further: the end result of liberalism every time.

ETA: and we could offer as many examples of corrupt and viscious capitalist governments as we could of those "claiming" to be socialist but ruined by the personal greed and mis-management of those at the top.

What we've had in the UK is much by way of wealth and income redistribution to the lazy, stupid, incompetent and property speculators where property only goes up - mixed with very weak regulation which encouraged excessive risks.

Do you not get it? Your Labour has been in power since 1997. We've had your socialist-capitalism mix and it has failed. Thank you for that. Thank you for house prices near trebling in 11 years under your watch and causing massive debt burden on the young trying to get their own home in which to live.

What socialism? There is no socialism in this country. The labour 'government' is not socialist.

It may be hiding behind an 'image' of 'socialism', but you'd have to be really thick/naive/close-minded to identify it with any kind of socialism.

In this country, there is now virtually no difference between labour and the Tories in terms of ideology – though labour is by far the worse option as a government as far as my family and I are concerned.

Add Poles, Czechs, Hungarians and other central and eastern European nations that had Russian communism forced onto them.
