  • Scrooge I read that program and had to have a lie down in a darkened room. I totally applaud you dedication to it, and it's clear that as you raise your expectations of yourself you acheive more.

I've always loved the message of IF.

Paperwork in my case is also a mess. Dear DH had a fireproof case in which the important stuff was stored, always left it to him. As I've had to delve into it, renew it etc it has not been put back. Has relocated itself to kitchen draws, under the PC, near the printer, on top of the bookcase. Where it obviously morphs into fire hazards.

Sometimes I think this 'paperless society' we were promised has actually increased the output. Because even if I go paperless on bank statements, bills and insurance quotes, I feel the need to print them 'just in case'.

However I'm assuming yours is more work orientated and you have more of a need to get it organised.

Now on the important issue of the male form, I have had to refocus my attentions on to your personal trainer because my dear Robbie Williams is getting married. All I have left is Daniel Craig, but he's pretty much taken too.

I had a wonderful nights sleep actually slept through to 7.30. That's what no alcohol does, gives me real energising shut eye.

Now I need PG to think of what I will accomplish today..

There's no stopping you DC. You will have conquered all your fears by lunch time at this rate.

Right, I've been enjoying the diaries for the last hour, but now i'm going to do one hour of new business work, before lunch.

    See you later.

    Morning all, quick visit today.
Scrooge re training regime. If I told you that then I would surely have to kill you :rotfl: Seriously, it was quite some years ago now so cant remember all of the ins and outs but I know I was VERY fit, VERY toned and full of energy. Most of it involved workouts in the gym, running, swimming and circuit classes. I also did a lot of tai chi then which I am hoping to start again soon along with the running. I stupidly registered for the London Marathon but havent done any training so hopefully I wont get through the selections ;) When I was working out in the gym I did something that I used to call splits on the rowing machine and the treadmill. It was a killer and involved blasts of very fast, intense rowing/running. I am sure that I still have the programme written down somewhere. I also did a lot of weight training and I much preferred that. I used to be able to do over 200 crunchies without flinching. Good luck with your training.

As for your filing system. I used to always have a clear desk when I worked in an office. This is an area that I have definitely reverted to type in as I am totally disorganised at the moment. I just need to take some time out to sort it. That is the secret - take 10 minutes each day and build it into your working day to do filing. This is just as important as any other part of your business, if not more so. Although I had a manager who I adored and respected a lot. He was my mentor in how to relax at work :rotfl: His desk was a cluttered mess and he sat opposite me. Whenever he was off I would tidy his desk (not put anything away just pile it neatly) and it would annoy him. He once gave me this quote
If a cluttered desk signs a cluttered mind, Of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?
    Albert Einstein.
He challenged me once to a dual. The idea being that a colleague would send us both the same memo. And at a time unknown to both of us he would then request that we find that memo and hand it to him. I accepted with the confidence that my filing system was so good that I would be able to find it in seconds. We got the memo and I duly filed mine away. 2 days later he asked for it when we were both sitting at our desk. I opened my filing cabinet and then tried to remember what I had filed it under (logic usually worked) by the time I returned to my desk which was 2 steps away, he had a big grin on his face and had found his paper in about 2 seconds. His theory........... if he didnt throw anything away and had it all piled on his desk he would always be able to find it. I on the other hand filed things away but then had to think about what I had decided to file it under at the time.

So the only tip I can give you is, keep a simple filing system and spend 10 minutes every day filing all the paperwork from that day. Paul on the other hand would say Stuff it. :rotfl::rotfl:

Wow - Scrooge. I cannot believe that programme you are going to be doing. Your fitness seems to have really come on even in recent weeks, and from posts just a couple of months ago the change is amazing.

I am noticing weird things happening to me. I am spending more time hanging round here, hypnos diary, and memory girls thread. I think somewhere between the 3 places, something has altered in my head like a switch going on. I am feeling a lot happier than i have in a long time. Like years. I feel like things will happen and i can stop worrying so much and enjoy the present. I am enjoying being at home more and treating it more like a job i want to do my best at rather than feeling put upon like i was.

Most of my focus seems to be the house, the kids and the money, and i can see that i am working towards being a better person. I have faith that i can get it all together because i have seen other people are.

Yesterday was quite a housework day for me. I spent ages scrubbing the grout of the tiles again in the new bathroom. I also then tackled the cooker which hasn't been done in a long time. I also man handled one of the cats and cut all the clumps out of his fur and cleaned his teeth. (I did pick the easier one of the 2 to do but it is again a start.) I think if i just tackle something meaty every day, my progress will become more self-evident and keep me motivated.

Life is good, so thanks one and all for keep providing me with such positive reading material and drip feeding into my brain.
  • Cheri can I just point out that you said 200 crunchies, now I know for a fact just one would be enough, but eating 200 in one go.... !

Seriously, all flipancy aside, I am in awe of anyone that has a body that can do the things that you all suggest (some of which may as well be Japanese to me).

Cha97 - yep my light has come on too, motivation breeds motivation.

I have 15 listings ready to go tonight, thats about half of the two boxes. Had to spend £4 on batteries and mess about with various cards/card readers because I can't find any camera leads anywhere !
But I've had enough now. Getting a bit blah blah blah on the descriptions.

DC - you are so unfair, I had just had a mouthful of tea as I read your post and then I had to go get a cloth to clean my screen :rotfl::rotfl: I think I would like to give it a go eating 200 crunchies though, at least I would die happy. Good luck with the listings. I havent motivated myself enough yet. Although I have put my dining table on for the 4th time. I am about giving up the will to live with it. I just found your diary so I will have a read and try to catch up with it.

Scrooge, it took me a while to build up to 200 but once I did I found it quite easy going. I know that sounds impossible but Mike did show me the correct way to do it which made a massive difference. I also did the system where I did so many straight up then so many to the right and so many to the left with short breathers between. Also you must remember that to get good stomach muscles you must have a strong back so superman and cat stretches must follow the crunchies. As for the marathon I have been threatening to apply for years. I lost both my Mum and Dad over the last few years and I would like to raise money for McMillan Nurses. Also I used to volunteer for Make a Wish and one of the children I worked with, who had recovered, recently died at the age of 21. It kind of made me realise that life is for living and instead of just saying I would do something I should get on with it. Do you mind me asking what your personal challenge is. No problem if you prefer not to share but it does sound very challenging.

The filing system will come together. Once you have invested the time in getting it set up it will fall into place. Like everything in life we tend to make things more difficult than they need to be. When I started work I was an Admin Assistant so my job was filing and linking post, it did make me a little anal or Monica ish. However I hated my PA filing and I used to leave it all week. Then I hated Fridays because I HAD to do the PA filing (it stands for put away or dormant). The reason I hated it was because the drawers were so packed and there were index cards in front of every case. I used to cut my hands to shreds. Then one day I figured if I spent 10 minutes every day it would feel a lot less difficult than a whole hour at the end of the week.

    Michelle,
I have been lurking on the boards for some time. I can honestly say that Memory Girls thread seemed to light me up too. Then I found this thread which was such a lovely thread and so motivating that I couldnt resist. I too feel very content with life at the moment.

  • Scrooge found your post and personal challenge interesting.

In response I always feel that life is a little flimsy late teens and early 20's and maybe we are all a bit busy focussing on the unimportant things. Then all of a sudden the 30's and 40's hit and you realise that actually this can't be it, ther has to be something else influencing the way I am. I know it sounds a different from your journey.

As you say what happens to us moulds who we are, but until that seed is placed we don't question it ?

I wish you every success in your quest, because it can only make you more accepting of life.

Enjoy visitors, think of me under the stairs.

Scrooge, I too found your personal challenge interesting. I have struggled over the last years with faith. I was brought up a practising catholic but I always questioned everything, which as you can imagine was a bit difficult for my teachers. Despite my family all being catholic I was lucky that they, in no way, were devout and allowed me to find my own way. Both my Mum and my Nan were very "spiritual" people. Both had gifts as they called them and this went against everything that the catholic faith teaches. Now I am a healthy sceptic on this subject. I say healthy because I think that people should question these things if they are to truly understand them. I have had many incidents that gave call to both my Mum and Nan telling me I have the "gift". I like to believe that I am very intuitive and sensitive to the world around me and so this is what I believe to be a "gift"
I have read many books in my quest to understand religions and to "find" my niche. Eventually, I have to say that I have come down upon the side of Dawkins however I have never read any of his books (couple on the bookshelf waiting for me to focus). I believe strongly in morality and being able to treat people with respect. My experience of catholicism is that a lot of people (including some of my family) feel that they are good people because they go to church every Sunday, sit in the front pews, give out communion etc etc etc. However they spend most of their time falling out with each other, judging anybody who has different views to them. And they think that this is ok because they go to confession on Saturday night.

I admire anybody that questions the meaning of life and even more those that set out on a quest to discover their true self and to understand the world around them. I believe that this is ultimately what being human is all about. I no longer believe in a higher being. I do however believe that every living creature, humans included have a purpose to life. The difficulty is accepting that purpose is meant to be about whilst you are here, alive and able to contribute to society in the best way possible. Too many people I know that have a religion, live their life in fear and guilt which stops them from living their life to the full and enjoying the fact that they have that life to live. I believe that this happens because the "religious" leaders need to keep control of their flock and the easiest way to do this is to instill fear into them. If I was to choose any religion then I believe that Buddhism would fit me best. I can relate to the Dalai Llama's book, The Art of Happiness, ifn fact I often re read that book when I feel that I am losing my way. That does not mean that I dont respect those people who believe in a higher being. After all, dying is very scary and I have friends who were absolute atheists who, when the time has come, suddeny found God. It is about dealing with death in the way that prepares you best. And I cannot rule out that when my time comes I wont want the priest by my bed telling me that I am going on to greater things.

I wish you all of the best in your quest. I understand now why you say that you need to be strong. If you are to really come to a conclusion that fits with you then you will have to be strong and able to resist being drawn into things at vulnerable points in your life.

Thank you for sharing it and for allowing us to be the first to hear this.
