Regardig the rabid shopping- how much of it will simply be wasted/thrown away?0
-
Last shopped on the 24th (£220) and next shopped on the 26th (£30), and then again on the 27th (£20) and today we've run out of flamin' dishwasher tablets - and I knew I was running low two weeks ago (at the same time the old dishwasher packed in!!!)
I just cannot do that shopping / meal planning thing! I seriously need help. All we've got in the fridge is cheese, cheese and more cheese!!!!0 -
Last shopped 23rd Dec, will go to MrT again 29/12/08 as have a lift, otherwise would be later. Did buy fresh baker's bread & a 75p quiche on 24th & milk on 27th. 5 adults & various visitors from 24th till now.
EDIT: Change that! shall be going on 30th as its too cold to go out againI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -

Luckily I have a relevant newspaper article right here...:D
Throughout the year, households throw away on average 18% of all food bought, but at christmas food waste goes up by 80%.
Including all types of waste, 20% more is created during the Christmas season.
Can you imagine throwing away 18% of all the food you buy :eek:August grocery challenge: £50
Spent so far: £37.40 :A0 -
Well I don't throw away 18%, nothing like, so there must be some people throwing away a lot more!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
Trying not to waste food!:j

that's what is even scarier
i have kept a record of what i've thrown away and since i moved house it's been literally, nothing. so imagine how much some people chuck.
it also mentioned that the average for households with kids is 27%August grocery challenge: £50

We shopped today but specifically for a buffet we're doing tomorrow. Tonights tea was store cupboard and I'm hoping to go back to being really storecupboard and self sufficient come the new year - can't wait really.
Until the last few months we had a high throw away rate and this was down to OH always feeling the need to buy stuff (provider mentality) but not enough communication as to what we actually needed. So he would overbuy on the fridgey stuff and it got thrown. That has changed and I'm happy about that and the fridge looks healthier.Wendy x0 -
Purpleivy, I need to get better at judging stuff (and I am improving and learning daily) because I end up with leftovers but not enough to be any good for the five of us for another meal. If it's good enough for two me and my boss eat it for lunch at work. I hate waste and love being cost effective so if I cook a meal that gives us five tea and then me and the boss lunch that's a score!Wendy x0

Just reacted rather badly to my OH who just threw away the lumpfish caviar because it smelt funny. Funny how? I asked. Sort of fishy.
Aaaaaaargh!
I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...
I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!0 -
