DSG Group status / * * Warning for those purchasing from DSG (Currys/Dixons?PCWorld)

As somebody elase said in the current climate credit cards are the best things to be using to ensure you have some assurance when making large purchases.
Would it be possible to get any written guarantee from retailers when you buy things as protection against closing down??
Just a thought?!?! Thanks to everybody in the crafting threads who inspired me to start my own business!!0 -
I don't think DSG will fold completely but I do think another "restructuring" could be on the cards. As others have said, (eg: i remember rumblelows etc) it had the virtual monopoly on the High St - but internet competition has undermined that and it did little to endear itself with a poor reputation for customer service for many many yearsMeanwhile, DSGI, the group behind Currys and PC World, is expected to report that like-for-like sales plunged 10%-12% during the period.
Analysts said that although sales of electrical goods had leapt in January, the rise would not make up for a difficult Christmas in which customers shunned big-ticket items.

When I visit the Currys and PC World websites I'm told, for example:
"To ensure we continue to improve your shopping experience with PC World,
we are upgrading our website. Unfortunately this means that the website is
currently unavailable"
Is that good news or bad news?0 -

That's what they say but then surely isn't that what every company that is about to close down says on their website?

I'm sure it'd just technical issues but just because they say it's technical errors doesn't mean thats the case. Companies 'lie'!!!0 -

The companies shares are still trading well, they are usually the first sign of trouble. But it's this kind of idle rumour mongering that can set the ball rolling and destroy a company who were otherwise trading well, it has happened before and will happen again. We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
Are they still trading well? They were down 9% on the previous year back in November and I've heard figures of sales being down maybe 12% over the Christmas period.
Watchdog just told everyone to use high street stores voichers asap as you never know!0 -

They are probably busy deleting all the £xx.97 priced items which don't exist!
If they were stuffed, their shares would have gone through the floor today. They went up.
According the www.theregister.co.uk they has a FUBAR on a website upgrade on Sunday night.
www.pcwb.co.uk is up and running, so are their foreign websites.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
First off, DSGI is NOT going down, whoever started this rumour is talking complete tosh.
We have branches all over the world for gods sake, dixons group INTERNATIONAL. Do you lot honestly think for one second that one of the most established electronic groups in the world would go into administration when we gain so much margin? I don't think so, John Browett, our Chief executive has confirmed the fact that we are in a stable position.
Its not just the obvious such as currys and pc world that are in our group, stores are wide spread across the whole world, DSG Ireland, Kotsovolos, El Giganten, Gigantti, Lefdal Lavpris, UniEuro, Markantalo, DSG Insurance Services, PC City, Pixmania, NEED I GO ON?
One last comment, the refurbishment process that i remember seeing in a previous post, this is happening to every single PC World, not too sure about currys but i know 100% that they were thinking about it, these refurbishments cost atleast £400,000 each store, hence why we have alot more lines of products in comparison to other stores.
Forget whatever you have heard about us going down, this rumour is started by word of mouth, personally i find it ridiculous that you all believe it if im honest.0 -

I agree with you, i dont think you can believe everything you read, if it was going down or was in trouble you would have heard something via the news on tv or something.0
