You won't get very far in PCWorld asking questions like that either.

Do you want fries with that?
Well you will if you get seen by me (although for ever geek like me you'll get someone like my co-worker who says "AMD's are better for gaming" )

Is it true the staff have been banned from giving any discounts - a 'haggling ban'? My sister was told this by a staff member when trying to get them to honour the sale price that had expired the day before in Currys, and I witnessed a customer in PC World refused a discount on the last display model of a discontinued model laptop!

Seems like they want to get every penny in....
Haggling has never really got you anywhere in DSGi stores on hardware at least, as the profit margin is so slim - all the profit actually comes from the extras.

They ARE trying to cost-cut though, had a memo come through making sure all letters are sent 2nd class to save money :X

  • Heres another thing I think people should know if buy from DSG (Dixons, Currys group). Just received a Samsung plasma TV - which is very faulty. Rang the Samsung Premier Support Line (sounds good eh?) and had a chat - in case its quicker to get them out and fix it rather than wait for collection and replacement etc, and to check out Samsung customer service which I was reading horror stories about last night.

Anyway, to cut a long story short - Currys buy their TVs from Samsung at a reduced rate as they don't buy the support that goes with the brand. So the standard 12 months warranty will be with Currys (DSG actually) who send out some old TV repair from their staff to scratch his/her head and have a poke at it!

Obviously if DSG go bust, there'll be no warranty at all! Think Currys obviously neglected to mention this small fact - especially when you buy what I thought was a good brand - Samsung - I thought you were getting the Samsung support as part of the package :mad:

Currys Dixons PC World. All rip off merchants. There is really no excuse to continue buying from them if you have a net connection and a credit card. Sign up to a cashback site and make money all ways round with the added insurance of using a card to pay.

Just remember, dont use a debit card - only the credit card will protect you.
:o Keep trying.........................what else is there to do? :o

Currys not buying the support won't mean you don't have a Samsung warranty should DSG go bust, I wouldn't have thought.

Lol threads like this really make me laugh, they post thier first losses in 20 years, and all of a sudden, they are going under.

Wake up people, all share prices in all companies, in all industries, have slumped. Even the HSBC Holdings have seen 40% wiped off their share value in the last 12 months and they are one of the strongest companies in the world.

DSGi will be here this time next year, and the year after that. They may have to restructure certain parts of the business, close/sell off some brands and stores etc, to cope with the downturn, but they arnt going anywhere.

Everyone seems to "have a mate" who knows this and that about them, or knows "someone who works for them" - yeah a salesman usually has the intelligence to understand economics, and the people on the shop floor usually get told by the bosses what the economic situation is with the company - nope.

Get real people, they are actually one of the few major brands that will make it through the tought times. Their shareholders and investors are not short of money, and id hazard a guess, after 20 years of sustained growth and increasing profits, they have a decent amount of capital in the backroom, even if they had to raise some from shareholders.

I know there are a lot of anti-DSGi people around, I don't particuarly like them myself, but they have their place in the market and they arnt likely to go anywhere anytime soon, regardless of all your wishful hoping that they will pi$$ off and go bankrupt.

People are talking as if when you pay for items on credit at DSG stores you owe them the money, you owe the HFC bank
  • Just noticed on my Egg card site, that both Dixons (2% Instant Cashback) And
Currys (5% Instant Cashback) Have both now been withdrawn from there.

So even less chance of me buying anything off them now, as before i was getting a good deal, combined with the Quidco cashbacks as well.

Glad i sold my shares in DSGI last week,as its becoming more and more obvious
that things arent looking good for them!

It's most likely to be because they are tightning their belts, it does'nt mean they are going under next week.

The market they are in has slim profit margins at the best of times, so when there is a slump in the entire economy, the first thing they will do, is stop "wasting" money. It might be an incentive to get you to buy from them, earning cashback, but if the figures no longer stack up, and they are making/anticipating price cuts to ensure they continue to get custom, then they will have their hand forced into shutting down such affiliation deals, even moreso if such deals could lose them money in the future.

Its a case of fingers crossed they stay in business for me, because although I don't buy much at all from them, I love browsing around PC World and picking up the odd bargain here and there, and most importantly, e-tailers can't always deliver my goods when I want/need them (ie. sameday, next day in a lot of cases, Sundays, Saturdays without high charge etc...).

I'm thinking of buying some shares in DSGi. It's a bit of a punt, but as rubbish as I think they are, I think that they'll get through the recession, and the share price might go up.
It's all a gamble, but there could be some good money to be made. Although it could go titsup, and then I'd lose a few hundred quid.
But you have to speculate to accumulate.

Why don't you just shop somewhere else rather than spend your free time moaning about it on here?
