Why don't you just shop somewhere else rather than spend your free time moaning about it on here?
After a lot of lurking about here I have to say that if you can't take the occasional moan then you really should choose a different forum to read. It will be better for your nerves!
From my personal experience with DSGi and its various incarnations I've only ever had at best mediocre service. One guy on customer services actually started a sentence to me with the words “ What some customers don't understand is...” if I had been 11 then it might just about have been acceptable, but I'm not and it wasn't. In fact the only time that I ever talk to anyone who was nice and helpful it turned out he was telling me rubbish! But to balance it out, while I don't wish them any good I definitely don’t want to see them go under. This is partly because they do provide competition that keeps prices down but mostly because there are probably lots of very nice helpful people who work there and who would suffer badly if they were to close and it's only because I've never spoken to one of them yet that I feel this way!
As for the cashback from Egg disappearing, it's no great loss. I have (or rather had) an Egg card which I tried to use over Christmas to buy a £500 TV (well within my credit limit). However without so much as an e-mail, Egg blocked the payment as ‘unusual’, as if they'd never heard of either ‘Dixons’ or ‘Christmas sales’. Also just for good measure they then put a hold on the card, again without telling me, in case I was foolish enough to try for another bargain. So while the cashback offer might have acted as an incentive for me to remain with them I never actually got to use it and now I never will.0 -
chickenboy wrote: »Heres another thing I think people should know if buy from DSG (Dixons, Currys group). Just received a Samsung plasma TV - which is very faulty. Rang the Samsung Premier Support Line (sounds good eh?) and had a chat - in case its quicker to get them out and fix it rather than wait for collection and replacement etc, and to check out Samsung customer service which I was reading horror stories about last night.
Anyway, to cut a long story short - Currys buy their TVs from Samsung at a reduced rate as they don't buy the support that goes with the brand. So the standard 12 months warranty will be with Currys (DSG actually) who send out some old TV repair from their staff to scratch his/her head and have a poke at it!
Obviously if DSG go bust, there'll be no warranty at all! Think Currys obviously neglected to mention this small fact - especially when you buy what I thought was a good brand - Samsung - I thought you were getting the Samsung support as part of the package :mad:
Is chickenboy aware under the sales of goods act, his guarantee is with Currys and not Samsung?
What commercial arrangements Currys have with Samsung have no effect on his consumer rights.
Did chickenboy ask for Samsung support and not Currys engineers at the time of purchase?
If he imagines Currys to be so bad why did he purchase from them in the first place?
Some people just like to moan!0 -

PC World and Currys parent prepares rights issue to raise cash
DSGi is preparing for a rights issue which could raise it hundreds of millions of pounds, according to the Sunday Telegraph.
Apparently, the final decision whether to go ahead will not be made until it has concluded discussions regarding the sale of some of its foreign business properties.
CEO Jon Browett is also reported to be in negotiations with banks over changes in borrowing covenants and credit rating issues.0 -
I wonder how many of their stores DSG own and how many are rented?
I'd guess most are rented surely?0 -

Perhaps chickenboy doesn't realise that retailers only usually purchase TVs from Samsung, not their support policies as well - and all retailers buy goods cheaper from manufacturers - it's called business.
Also, Currys/PCW/Dixons don't sell your details to anyone (why would they, they want your details to use themselves) but Comet and a lot of smaller retailers wait for you to leave the shop with your TV and then sell your details to Domestic & General. D&G then buy the rights to use the brand (i.e. Samsung), who will then send you direct mail with a Samsung logo on offering you product insurance for your Samsung product. So you think it's Samsung you're dealing with, but in reality you have no real contact with Samsung - you deal with either the retailer or a 3rd party insurance company.
Moral of the story is; wake up people - it's not personal, it's just business and without it we're unemployed.

Afair if you buy a tv you do have to give them your address as part of the tv licensing laws so they can chase you up if you don't have a license (but definately do have a tv as you just boguht one), same thing went for if you bought a tv card as well.
Surprised noones mentioned the announcement of the creation of over 50 combined Currys/PC World stores.
Of course this does actually mean people will be laid off as the new stores will probably just be in one of the two stores on any shopping park across the country. So there'll be a nice new shop (doing well as it's the way things should work) but an empty Currys or PC World next door that DGI no longer need. And you can bet there won't be both shops staff working in the new stores, so thats a lot of potential job losses.0 -
Sadly, I think your going to be correct on that one, trust me.
At least Currys will match price.
Apollo 2000 refused to match price on a television, conradicting their advertising, because the other shop were giving a free 5 year warranty.
I didn't even want the warranty, I just wanted to buy locally at the best price which I did by purchasing at Currys.0 -

I can safely say that Apollo will not be on our high street next week. Maybe not even tomorrow.0
