Well we have signed up with the nice salesman from Scottish Hydro Electric - a saving of £20 per month - happy with this. We are also getting a nice cheque from them for £40 to give a bit of credit towards our account as long as we use this prior to end of January 2010 and also a card where we can get 10% discount on things we buy from argos homebase for as long as we use them. We are not signed in for any lenght of time so can move if we want.

We checked out uswitch but was unhappy with some of the companies who could save us money, as had heard some bad stories so fingers crossed we have made the correct decision.

Hubbie told me that everyone in his work is on consultation and we will find out if he is affected over the next 3 weeks - going to be stressful but I am not going to stress if I can until we know for sure. Funny how they did this, this time last year and now again this year!! Luckily we had our holiday unspoilt this year.

well done to your DD on the potty training, the overpayment and sorting the utilities. It should all help out your budget in the long run.

I wish my DS was doing as well. He has good days and bad, but today was definitely a bad one. Lots of accidents even though he can do it and has been for weeks. I think it is for attention, although maybe i am being a bit hard on him.

Well they have finished the redundancy notices to everyone at hubbie's work for the now and he is fine (no doubt it will happen again) but we can only do what we are the moment which is putting money in savings and overpaying the mortgage.

Had a few calls from my car insurance company and they have allocated me a solicitor to deal with my car accident claim - fingers crossed this will be sorted out soon.

    Bye for now.

Well I finally got round to recycling 2 old mobiles and have just received a cheque for £9 (hurrah - will need to bank this today) so that I can put an extra £10 towards the mortgage. They were really old phones so glad that we got something.

Made an overpayment of £60 today so for July the total overpayment is £340 which I am happy about. Getting there slowly but surely.

Well its the end of July already and I managed to overpay £340 this month and the figures read:-

    March 09 monthly interest £256.08 daily (£8.26)
    April 09 monthly interest £245.41 daily (£8.18)
    May 09 monthly interest £250.95 daily (£8.10)
    June 09 monthly interest £131.79 daily (£4.39)
    July 09 monthly interest £135.07 daily (£4.36)

As of tomorrow (1st Aug) we are on a new fixed deal of 4.59% which will probably go back to monthly interest in the region of £250 but if I plug away with the overpayments, hopefully this will continue to reduce as the above clearly shows. Overpayments are going to be low (approx £240), as we are also trying to build up our savings.

Hubbie eventually took money out of an old isa which was paying very little and put into a new isa with a higher rate of interest - hurrah so I can forget about this until next year. I am drip feeding money into my isa for the remainder of the year.

Made 1st overpayment for the month of August today for £180 and hope to do another overpayment next week after I get paid.

Sometimes it seems such a mammoth task trying to get to £61,000 by the end of the year and not sure if I will achieve this, due to trying to also build up savings - time will time.

Hope to do a car boot sale later in the month and fingers crossed we manage to sell stuff and make a bit of money. Expensive month as mum has a big birthday so got present to buy with my brothers and also we are going our for birthday dinner, and then September - it is my father-in-law big birthday.
